The body lay sprawled on the floor, blood pooling around her head. Detective Jameson knelt beside the victim, examining the grisly scene. He noted the shattered vase nearby, a possible murder weapon. The room showed signs of a struggle, overturned furniture and broken glass. Jameson's partner, Detective Thompson, entered the room, her face grim. "What have we got here, Jameson?" she asked, surveying the carnage. He stood up, wiping his hands on his slacks. "It's a mess, that's for sure. Multiple stab wounds, looks like she fought back hard." He pointed to the victim's hands, clenched in rigor mortis. "Could be defensive wounds. I'll need to bag those for evidence." Thompson nodded, pulling on gloves. "I'm on it. You find anything else?" He walked the perimeter, careful not to disturb the scene. "No sign of forced entry. Looks like she let the killer in." Thompson bagged the hands, then stood. "Some friend. What about a motive?"
