The following dialogue occurs between Selvi and Detective Hunter at a cafe in Alborn, MN. Selvi: [worry in Hindi] "Han ji, main sahi se suna hain ki shaam ko ek aur fursat aayi hai is sheher mein. Sab kuch ek do pal ke liye ruk gaya tha, ek vahani hai... [In English: Yes, I heard correctly that another disappearance occurred in this city last night. Everything froze for a moment, it's so shocking...]" Hunter: [confused] "Uhh, sorry, what?" Selvi: [with gestures, voice increasing in agitation] "Ek ladki tha, ek yuvatha, sab kuch achha tha, aur phir ek kadd ki baad usko aur kahin bhi... [A girl, a young one, everything was alright, and then vanishes without a trace...]" Hunter: "Slow down, I don't understand you. A girl vanished? When and where exactly?" Selvi: [more animated] "Agar main bolun to... Last night, in this city... [If I say so, last night, in this city...]" Hunter: "Okay, last night, in the city. Got it. You're saying a girl disappeared? Are you sure?" Selvi: [becoming agitated, voice rising] "Ji, main bilkul yakin hai. Aisi baatein... [Yes, I am very certain. Such things...] [Selvi continues speaking rapidly in Hindi as Hunter stares at her, his brow furrowed in confusion and frustration at not understanding her. After a few strained moments, Selvi realizes he can't understand her and gestures helplessly at him with a shaken expression.] Hunter: [putting a hand on her shoulder] "Hey, hey, it's alright, just take it easy. I can't understand you though. Do you speak any English? Even a little bit?" Selvi: [shakes head no] "Nhai, mainh angrezi bol nahi saktha... [No, I can't speak English...]" [At this moment, Hunter's phone rings. He answers it with an exasperated sigh.] Hunter: "Yeah, what is it? ...Okay, I'm on my way." [to Selvi] "I gotta go. Sorry, this is a dead end." [He stands and hurries out, leaving Selvi slumped at the table, looking troubled and shaking her head sadly to herself, worrying about the missing girl.]
