Detective John Smith arrived at the crime scene in darkness. He surveyed the area with a practiced eye for clues. A middle-aged man lay lifeless on the bloody floor. The victim wore an expensive three-piece business suit today. His blue shirt was stained crimson, a single bullet hole. His tie, once perfectly knotted, now askew and dangling. The victim's eyes stared blankly into the night sky above. No one else was present, at least not that Smith saw. He took out his notepad, a habit he'd never broken. Smith crouched down for a closer look at the body.
