The aroma of freshly baked muffins filled the air, but Melanie was oblivious to the comforts of the café. She was lost in thought, her expression troubled. Suddenly, a man's voice interrupted her thoughts. "Excuse me, miss. I couldn't help but notice you were taking quite a few pictures of our town. Mind if I ask what you're photographing?" Melanie jumped slightly, startled by the intrusion. She looked up and met the gaze of a tall, stern-looking man with a military-style haircut. He wore a suit that looked out of place in the small-town setting. She hesitated, her eyes flicking from the man's face to his ID badge, which read "Hunter, Detective." "No," she said in German, her voice barely above a whisper. "I-I'm just... documenting the town. It's beautiful here." Hunter nodded, a hint of recognition in his eyes. "Beautiful, yes. But there's something else I see in your pictures, something... eerie. Have you seen or heard anything unusual?" Melanie's hands trembled slightly as she handed him her camera. "I... I saw something. A figure, standing by the old mill. It wasn't... normal." Hunter's expression darkened. "The old mill? That's where most of the disappearances have been reported. You didn't see or hear anything else, did you?" Melanie shook her head, her eyes wide with fear. "No, but it was... it was strange. It was like it was looking at me, watching me." Hunter took the camera, his brow furrowed in thought. "I need to look into this. Can you describe the figure better?" Melanie's voice quivered as she spoke, her words tumbling out. "It was tall, very tall. Clothes... like they were old, but worn. And it had a... a look on its face. I can't describe it, but it was... not right." Hunter nodded, jotting down notes on a small pad.
