The old mansion stood silently at the end of town. Detective Sarah Mills arrived just as the clock struck eight. A body lay sprawled across the cold marble entrance floor. The victim wore an expensive suit stained dark with blood. No one had heard a single sound during the night. Three guests remained inside their rooms on the second floor. Each one claimed they had been sleeping through it all. The front door was locked firmly from the inside still. Sarah knelt beside the body and studied the fatal wound.
