The rain fell steadily against the mansion's tall windows as Detective Miller slowly approached the crime scene. He wiped water from his brow before pushing open the heavy oak door very slowly. The elderly butler stood waiting just inside with a very pale face and his trembling hands. "Sir, we discovered Lord Harrington in his study approximately one full hour ago," he whispered quietly. Miller nodded curtly while following the butler down the long, dimly lit corridor in complete silence. Bloody footprints marked the expensive Persian rug leading toward the study's closed wooden door just ahead. The detective carefully examined the partial prints with his trained, methodical eyes before entering all alone. Lord Harrington slumped across his mahogany desk with a silver letter opener embedded through his chest. Miller surveyed the room methodically, noting the overturned chair and scattered papers everywhere around the body. The fireplace had recently been used, though the summer evening remained quite warm and very humid. A half-empty glass of whiskey sat near the victim's lifeless right hand on the large mahogany desk. Miller noticed the expensive gold watch was missing from Lord Harrington's left wrist which was completely bare. The study window stood slightly ajar, allowing the rain to dampen the wooden sill beneath it completely. The detective photographed everything methodically before questioning the butler about the family's current whereabouts earlier tonight. "Everyone was in their rooms until we heard the scream from Lady Harrington upstairs," he explained quietly. Miller jotted notes while wondering which family member might have wanted Lord Harrington dead enough tonight.
