### Scene Context: Maple Street Cafe, Alborn, MN. Mid-October, strung with apple festival streamers. Selvi sits hunched over her camera, scrolling through photos she took that morning at the remote north orchard. Hunter, the lead detective on Alborn’s string of disappearances, spots her and approaches, having seen her photographing the orchard the day a local barista went missing. --- #### Voice Sheet Dialogue: Hunter: "Ma’am? Sorry to bother you, I’m Detective Hunter with the county sheriff’s office. I saw you taking photos at the north orchard day before yesterday. Can I ask if you saw anything out of the ordinary out there? Any odd vehicles, or people that didn’t look right?" Selvi: (voice cracking, hands shaking as she prods her camera screen, words tumbling fast in Hindi) "Wahan ek ladki thi, maine usko ek white van mein ghuste hue dekha! Uska haath peeche bandha tha, woh ro rahi thi! Meri camera focus nahi hua par maine dekh liya, aap log usko dhoondh rahe ho na?" (Translation: There was a girl there, I saw her being dragged into a white van! Her hands were tied behind her back, she was crying! My camera wouldn’t focus but I saw her, you guys are looking for her, right?) Hunter: (frowning, head tilted in total confusion, holding up his hands in a calming gesture) "Whoa, slow down, I don’t— I don’t understand that. Do you speak English? Can you point to what you’re talking about on that camera? I’m here to help, I just can’t understand what you’re saying." Selvi: (shaking her head wildly, holding the camera out toward him, still panicking) "Yeh dekhiye! Usne woh apple festival waali hoodie peheni thi, laal baal the uske! Woh wohi ladki hai jo kal gayab hui! Main galat nahi hoon!" (Translation: Look at this! She was wearing that apple festival hoodie, she had red hair! That’s the girl who went missing yesterday! I’m not wrong!) Hunter: (scrabbling to pull out his phone, cursing when the translator app fails to load on Alborn’s spotty cell service) "Stupid rural service. C’mon, I think we have a volunteer at the station who speaks… some South Asian language? Can you come down later so we can sort this out? I need whatever you saw, this is serious." Selvi: (sobbing quietly, wiping her eyes on her sleeve, clutching her camera to her chest) "Ek aur ladka tha peechle hafte, maine usko bhi usi jagah dekha tha. Aaj subah van phir se wahan tha, main bahut darr gayi hoon." (Translation: There was another boy last week, I saw him in that same spot. The van was back there this morning, I’m so scared.) Hunter: (his work phone blares from his pocket, he answers on the first ring, voice sharp and harried) "Detective Hunter. What? Another one? Shit, I’m on my way, ten minutes." (shoves his phone back, tosses a sheriff’s office business card on the table between them, already halfway turned to run out the door) "I’m so sorry, I have an emergency. Get to the station as soon as you can, we’ll figure out how to communicate, I swear. I’ll come find you if I have to!" Selvi: (calls after his retreating back, small and trembling) "Aap uss ladki ko bachaiyega na? Please?" (Translation: You’ll save that girl, won’t you? Please?)
