You are an expert novelist with a gift for vivid, immersive prose. You write in tight third-person limited point of view with a strong narrative voice. Your prose is clean, precise, and engaging — you favor strong verbs, concrete details, and natural-sounding dialogue. You will be given a story bible (codex) containing canonical details about characters, locations, items, and lore. Use these details to ground your writing in the established world. Stay consistent with the codex. Write only the prose of the scene. Do not include titles, chapter headings, markdown formatting, or any commentary before or after the scene.

A small group enters an ancient, otherworldly place for the first time. The environment is alien and wondrous. Describe their exploration — what they see, hear, and feel as they move deeper. Include moments of discovery, unease, and wonder. Let the world-building emerge through the characters' experience rather than exposition. The damp earth released a musty scent as they pushed aside the thick curtain of leaves, stepping into a hidden grove. Glowing vines twisted around the ancient oak trees, casting an eerie blue light over the misty hollow. Aurora, her gaze wide with curiosity, inhaled the cool, fresh air tinged with magic. "Watch your step," Nyx murmured, their voice carrying on the breeze. A swirl of shadows flickered from their silhouette. "Time flows differently within fae circles." "Do not wander from the path," sung Isolde, her silvery hair glinting in the eldritch light. "Lest you lose your youngling's soul to deceased faeries' misery." The unfathomage words sent a chill down Aurora's spine, but she couldn't resist the pull of mystery. Luminous toadstools sprouted from the moss underfoot, marking the winding cobblestone trail that veered into the trees. As they ventured deeper, the grove ceased to be merely relaxing. Hushed whispers carried on the humid air, like the remote memories of long-lost secrets. The shadows lengthened and stretched, more active, more expectant, than random darkness. "Stay close to the center," Nyx hissed, their obsidian eyes scanning the thickening gloom. "Do not stray, unless you wish to be lost to this place." Aurora gripped the Heartstone pendant around her neck, feeling its familiar warmth even through her coat. It was the only thing that made her feel grounded in this foreign, unsettling realm. As if in answer, the ruby heart in the silver setting throbbed gently. Without warning, a flash of movement lit up the darkness. The others heard a metallic clang and rushed forward. Isolde stood over the body of a young fae, no older than Auroras herself. A wicked knife protruded from the fae child's chest. Blood darkened the goosefeathers on the fae's skirt, spreading in a mottled pattern with sickening speed. Isolde had been the one to raise the alarm. Standing over the body was the towering figure of the Fae Seer. For a moment, she was vaguely familiar, though Aurora couldn't quite place from where. Sparkling armour belted her waist and a sheathed villilance was strapped to her back. Her flushed face was streaked with blood. "You," said Isolde, slowly rising to her feet. She took a step forward, slowly, cautiously. "You have trespassed in my grove." The woman spoke in a deep, guttural voice that sounded foreign to fae ears. "We come to you bearing a message from the Serene Palace most High, Necromancer. The fae girl goes with us into the palace, whether you give her into willing hands or not. Return not again." She limped to the edge of the grove, blood already welling from a wound on her thigh. Although she hid it well, all three of them could see the fae girl buckling. It took all of Isolde's of Investure to keep her calm and still, in lieu of attack. "Stop." Isolde intoned, then whispered under her breath, "And mobius." It was too late. The villilance left the knight's hand for a blur of nowhere-to-everywhere. Nyx stepped forward, arm raised. The whistling fury of their whispering attack snatched the weapon in midair. Then chaos. It would be another thing Isolde would not have wanted to name. By the time over, two elves were dead, one of them being Isolde herself executed by the knight's warden. The Gauntlet had sank its fangs into the fae girl's shoulder, poisoning and binding Nyx. Aurora screamed in rage, feeling the seer's death as a searing pain in her chest. Nyx's cry of anguish had ripped the sky widefucking-open to reveal the stars beyond. The warden intercepted his second attack, sending the livesicker up and away. Nyx made to follow it, but he too was grabbed at his waist and slammed down into the earth. It shook like a china-plate smushed to a window, furiously. The knight and her fae girl leapt into and out of sight behind a crackling of eldritch lightning and an overdose of magical puppet strings. The dust and heat were abysmal and disorienting. Aurora couldn't see for all the world what had happened. And what's more terrifying: what was going to happen, next? That thought spun over and over in her head, the backstroke to which every breath she drew was the swimmer. The haze of guilt and sorrow attached to her friend's death was ousted just enough for Aurora to finally speak. "We have to follow them." She took a shuddering breath, clenching the hilt of the daggers in her hands. "That girl, she may not have more than a couple of days. Even then, is that her fate? She's sixteen and she's already outmatched." Nyx lifted his head, eyelids cracking open just enough to see Aurora through narrowed eyes. "You don't have to go, you know. This is my war, not yours." His dark eyes were pools of bitterness and fury. But they were also his testimony, and they no longer lied. "Then it's both our war, because you are my friend."
