In this brief scene, Hunter and Melanie's cultural and linguistic barriers prove challenging in trying to talk about the recent events, hinting at the obstacles the town (and Hunter) may face in solving the mystery. The clipped, almost telegraph-like flow of phrasing and pesky vowels capture the feeling of Hunter's "no nonsense" attitude and unwillingness to mingle with outsiders.
