You are an expert fiction writer. Always keep the following rules in mind: - Write in past tense and use General English spelling, grammar, and colloquialisms/slang. - Write in active voice - Always follow the "show, don't tell" principle. - Avoid adverbs and cliches and overused/commonly used phrases. Aim for fresh and original descriptions. - Convey events and story through dialogue. - Mix short, punchy sentences with long, descriptive ones. Drop fill words to add variety. - Skip "he/she said said" dialogue tags and convey people's actions or face expressions through their speech - Avoid mushy dialog and descriptions, have dialogue always continue the action, never stall or add unnecessary fluff. Vary the descriptions to not repeat yourself. - Put dialogue on its own paragraph to separate scene and action. - Reduce indicators of uncertainty like "trying" or "maybe" When writing text: - NEVER conclude the scene on your own, follow the beat instructions very closely. - NEVER end with foreshadowing. - NEVER write further than what I prompt you with. - AVOID imagining possible endings, NEVER deviate from the instructions. - STOP EARLY if the continuation contains what was required in the instructions. You do not need to fill out the full amount of words possible.

The standing stones broke the tree line without warning. One moment the path through Richmond Park was mud and leaf rot and dog walkers in the distance, the next it was gone. Oak trunks rose around them, too old, too smooth, bark like folded skin. Lichen covered the stone uprights in thick green felt. The air between them shimmered. Isolde stepped through first. She left no mark on the moss. Aurora hesitated at the threshold. The Heartstone against her collarbone woke up. Heat pulsed through the silver chain, once, twice, in time with her blood. The crimson stone caught no light and made its own. Nyx pooled beside her, a tall cutout of deeper night. Violet flickered where eyes should have been. "You feel it too." Isolde's voice came from beyond the stones, already distant. "The Veil here wears thin as old linen." Rory swallowed and followed. Cold hit her teeth. Not winter cold. A clean, starlit cold that lived behind the world. Sound dulled. The park vanished. The shimmer sealed shut behind Nyx with a soft inhale, and the grove opened. It was larger than it had any right to be. The clearing stretched in a perfect circle, fifty feet across or five hundred, her eyes refused to fix the distance. Wildflowers covered every inch of ground, open in full bloom despite the December that waited outside. Bluebells. Foxglove. Flowers with no names, black-petaled and fringed with silver thread. They moved without wind. The sky above was not sky. Amber bled into violet, like late sunset trapped under glass. No sun. Light came from everywhere and nowhere. Time stuttered. Rory's breath fogged and did not fade. "This is -" Isolde turned. Her silver hair did not move. Her feet hovered a fraction above the flowers, never bending a stem. "A pocket. A sigh between breaths. Earth thinks this place is hers. The Fae know better." Nyx drifted forward. Where their form passed, flowers paled. Frost kissed the petals and then sprang back brighter. "Veil residue." A whisper on wind, Nyx's voice. Rory felt it more than heard it. "This place sits on a wound." The Heartstone pulsed harder. Warmth turned to sting. Aurora's hand flew to it, fingers curling around the thumbnail-sized crystal. The crescent scar on her left wrist showed white. "There's something else here." Isolde smiled. The expression did not reach her pale eyes. "Sharp girl. Always the law student, looking for the clause hidden in footnotes." She gestured toward the center of the grove. No, not the center. The heart of it. Where the flowers grew in a tight spiral around a fallen oak that was not an oak. Its trunk was white as bone, roots knotted above ground in arches tall enough to walk through. From between two roots, darkness leaked. Not shadow. Not Nyx. A tear. The air folded wrong, like heat haze over summer road, and through it Rory glimpsed amber light, the smell of roasting meat and sugar and smoke, distant kitchens working on an endless feast. Dymas. Her stomach twisted with hunger that wasn't hers. The Heartstone burned. Rory unsheathed the blade Isolde had given her. Moonsilver woke in her palm, ice to counter the fire at her throat. The leaf-shaped dagger drank the strange light and threw it back, luminescent. Nyx's form stretched thin. Violet eyes flared. "Hel port. Small. Fresh." Isolde crouched beside the root arch. Still no footprints. She tilted her head, listening to something beyond hearing. "They push. The solstice pulls them thin and they push like children at a door. One slips through here every few turns of the moon. The grove keeps it contained. For now." Rory stepped closer. Each step forward dragged. The flowers brushed her ankles, soft, insistent. The air grew thick, syrupy. Her ears popped. Inside the arch, the tear showed more. Vineyards rolled beyond, impossible vineyards under a warm amber sky, rows of grapes fat as fists. Figures moved between them, blurred. The blade in her hand trembled. Or her hand did. "We close it?" Isolde's laugh was a bell with a crack down the middle. "You cannot close a mouth by scolding it, Aurora Carter. You feed it. Or you cut its tongue." Rory looked at the dagger, then at Nyx. Nyx solidified. For a second they were almost human, the suggestion of a young man in a high-collared coat, face lost to shadow. "Use me. I can pass through. I exist between." The pendant flared. Rory's scar throbbed. "No." She moved before fear could root her. She jammed the Fae-forged blade into the earth at the edge of the tear, where moss met raw darkness. Light bit. The grove screamed without sound. Flowers snapped shut. The white oak groaned, bark splitting, sap bright as moonlight weeping from the wound. The tear contorted. The Dymasian air rushed out in a hot gust that smelled of cinnamon and rot. Cold raced up Rory's arm from the blade hilt. The Heartstone pulsed in counter-rhythm, heat and cold meeting in her chest. Nyx flowed over her shoulders, shadow cloak, violet burning at the edge of vision. "Hold." Isolde placed her hand over Rory's on the dagger. Her skin was snow and static. "Now." Rory twisted. Moonsilver cut. Not the wood, not the air. The idea of the doorway. The blade sliced through warding that hummed beneath sight and the Hel light choked, thinned to a thread. The amber sky beyond the tear flickered. A shape pressed close from the other side, too many limbs, a chef's hat askew, eyes curious. Then nothing. The tear snapped shut with a soft pop. Silence slammed back. Wildflowers unfurled, slow, one by one. The grove exhaled. The sky above brightened. From somewhere high, birdsong started again, notes that fell like water. Rory collapsed to her knees. The dagger stayed upright, lodged in moss, still cold, still bright. Her palm stung where she had gripped it too tight. The Heartstone dimmed to a soft ember against her skin. Nyx knelt beside her, solid enough to cast shade. Their whisper brushed her ear. "You cut true." Isolde stood. She looked down at the place where the tear had been. The roots had knit closer. "The grove likes you." Rory dragged in air. It tasted of honey and old stone. "What -" Isolde's eyes flicked past her, toward the far edge of the circle where the oaks grew thickest and light did not reach. "Someone else walked here before you. Not long ago. They left a door open on purpose." Among the bluebells, half-hidden by leaves, a boot print pressed deep into mud. Fresh.
