You are an expert fiction writer. Always keep the following rules in mind: - Write in past tense and use General English spelling, grammar, and colloquialisms/slang. - Write in active voice - Always follow the "show, don't tell" principle. - Avoid adverbs and cliches and overused/commonly used phrases. Aim for fresh and original descriptions. - Convey events and story through dialogue. - Mix short, punchy sentences with long, descriptive ones. Drop fill words to add variety. - Skip "he/she said said" dialogue tags and convey people's actions or face expressions through their speech - Avoid mushy dialog and descriptions, have dialogue always continue the action, never stall or add unnecessary fluff. Vary the descriptions to not repeat yourself. - Put dialogue on its own paragraph to separate scene and action. - Reduce indicators of uncertainty like "trying" or "maybe" When writing text: - NEVER conclude the scene on your own, follow the beat instructions very closely. - NEVER end with foreshadowing. - NEVER write further than what I prompt you with. - AVOID imagining possible endings, NEVER deviate from the instructions. - STOP EARLY if the continuation contains what was required in the instructions. You do not need to fill out the full amount of words possible.

Rain hammered Soho and turned the pavement into black glass. Harlow Quinn stood opposite The Raven's Nest with her shoulder against brick and her collar up against the cold. The green neon above the entrance bled across the wet street and stuttered in the puddles. Past the front window the bar held low light and walls of old maps and black-and-white photographs and the shape of a bookshelf that hid a back room. She checked the worn leather on her left wrist. 23:17. Her cropped salt-and-pepper hair dripped. Water cut lines down her sharp jaw. Her breath made no cloud; the air held too much damp for that. The door opened and threw a slab of light across the road. Tomás Herrera stepped out. Olive skin shone under the neon. Short dark curls clung to his forehead. His Saint Christopher medallion caught the light as he tucked his chin into his coat and moved. The scar on his left forearm showed white for half a second between cuff and glove before he pulled the sleeve down. Harlow pushed off the wall. She crossed the street in four strides. "Tomás Herrera. Police. Stop where you are." His warm brown eyes found hers across the rain. His body locked for half a beat. Then he ran. Harlow ran. She shouted into her radio and the static ate the words. She jammed the radio back to her belt and sprinted. Her boots hit standing water and threw it high. Her jacket snapped behind her. Tomás cut left down Greek Street and vaulted a stack of milk crates outside a shuttered kitchen. Harlow followed without breaking stride and her knee kissed the top crate and sent it clattering. Traffic blurred. A taxi honked and veered. Tomás slipped between a bus and a delivery van and kept his feet. Harlow cut the gap tighter and the heat of the bus engine washed over her face as she squeezed through. "You run and I chase. You know how this goes." "You have the wrong man, Detective." His voice carried back over his shoulder and the rain thinned it. He did not look back again. He pumped his arms and his coat flared. Harlow closed two metres on the straight and lost one on the turn where water pooled at the kerb and stole traction from her soles. Her lungs burned. Her watch ticked against the bone of her wrist. Old Compton Street gave way to the choke of side streets. Bins overflowed. The smell of fried oil and wet cardboard mixed with exhaust. Tomás knocked a wheelie bin sideways and it spun. Harlow planted a hand on its lid and hurdled it. Metal screeched against brick. A pair of drinkers outside a late pub stared as the two figures tore past. Tomás cut through an arch into an alley that ran with a river of runoff. The alley walls pressed close and ran with graffiti that wept colour in the rain. The sound changed there, rain on brick and on fire escapes and on the plastic sheeting that covered scaffolding. Footsteps echoed and doubled. Harlow gained. Ten feet. Eight. Tomás burst from the alley onto the Camden road and veered north. Cars sprayed arcs from their tyres. Neon from shopfronts smeared across his back. He made for the Tube station. The one with the gates chained and the sign faded and the hoarding that claimed redevelopment pending. The abandoned station beneath Camden. Harlow knew the site from maps at the station. No trains. No staff. Sealed. Tomás did not slow at the chainlink. He hit the fence and climbed. His boots found purchase on the cross-brace and his scarred forearm flexed as he threw his weight over the top. He dropped to the other side and rolled and kept moving toward the service stairwell that led down into darkness. Harlow hit the fence at speed. The metal rattled under her hands and vibrated up her arms. She climbed with military precision, each hand and foot placed, no wasted motion, and dropped to the concrete on the far side. Her knees absorbed the impact. Rain drummed on the hoarding above and then muffled as she ducked into the stairwell and the city sound cut out. Concrete steps led down. The air turned cold and held the tang of iron and old diesel and mildew. Water ran down the centre of the steps in a shallow channel. Her boots splashed. The green neon was gone. A weak amber emergency light buzzed far below and threw long shadows. Tomás descended two steps at a time. "Stop. That is an order." He reached the bottom landing. A steel door stood there, rusted and set with a circular recess at chest height. No handle. No lock plate. Tomás pulled something from his coat pocket. Harlow saw it as he raised his hand: a yellowed piece of bone, cut flat and etched with a shallow groove. He pressed the bone token into the recess. Stone ground against steel. The door shuddered and pulled inward with a sigh of stale air. Beyond lay another set of stairs, older, tiled in cracked cream and bottle green. Warm light rose from below and with it noise - a low thrum of voices and music and the clink of glass, the haggle of a market. The Veil Market. Harlow knew the whispers from informants and from the file she kept on DS Morris. A hidden market for enchanted goods and banned alchemical substances and information that never reached daylight. A market that moved every full moon. Tonight the moon showed full and swollen above the rain clouds, and the market had rooted here, in the hollow of the dead station. Tomás glanced back once. Rainwater dripped from his curls onto the medallion at his throat. "You follow me down there, you do not come back the same." Harlow halted at the top of the lower stairs and braced a hand on the wet wall. Her chest heaved. Water pooled around her boots and ran down to the open door. The light from below touched the edge of her jaw and lit the salt in her hair. The worn leather of her watch ticked loud in the stairwell. She thought of Morris. Three years. A case that closed with no body and no report that made sense. Supernatural origins the superiors redacted. She thought of the maps on the Raven's walls and the bookshelf that opened when no one watched. The market breathed below. The smell of incense and ozone and fried sugar rose with the sound. Tomás stepped through the doorway and the bone token pulsed faint in the recess as the steel began to swing shut behind him. "Last chance, Detective." Harlow looked up at the rain that fell through the open stairwell behind her and the chainlink and the street and the world with procedure and backup and rules. She looked down at the tiled stairs and the amber light and the noise that had no business existing beneath a sealed station. Her hand left the wall. She stepped forward and caught the edge of the steel door with her palm before it sealed. And she followed him down.
