You are an expert fiction writer. Always keep the following rules in mind: - Write in past tense and use General English spelling, grammar, and colloquialisms/slang. - Write in active voice - Always follow the "show, don't tell" principle. - Avoid adverbs and cliches and overused/commonly used phrases. Aim for fresh and original descriptions. - Convey events and story through dialogue. - Mix short, punchy sentences with long, descriptive ones. Drop fill words to add variety. - Skip "he/she said said" dialogue tags and convey people's actions or face expressions through their speech - Avoid mushy dialog and descriptions, have dialogue always continue the action, never stall or add unnecessary fluff. Vary the descriptions to not repeat yourself. - Put dialogue on its own paragraph to separate scene and action. - Reduce indicators of uncertainty like "trying" or "maybe" When writing text: - NEVER conclude the scene on your own, follow the beat instructions very closely. - NEVER end with foreshadowing. - NEVER write further than what I prompt you with. - AVOID imagining possible endings, NEVER deviate from the instructions. - STOP EARLY if the continuation contains what was required in the instructions. You do not need to fill out the full amount of words possible.

The oak stones broke the tree line without transition. One moment Richmond Park stretched in winter brown and damp leaf mulch, the next the air thickened. Three stones stood in a rough circle, each twice Aurora's height, bark and moss grown so deep into the grain the rock resembled petrified wood. Aurora halted at the edge. The silver chain at her throat held a weight that had not been there a minute before. Isolde passed between the stones. Her silver hair caught no wind. Her feet pressed the frost and left no mark. "You feel the threshold. Step or stand." Aurora flexed her left wrist. The crescent scar tightened in the cold. She forced a breath and stepped forward. The Fae blade at her hip knocked against her thigh, a dull cold that cut through her jeans. Nyx flowed beside her. Their outline wavered at the edges, violet eyes the sole fixed point in a column of smoke and shadow. Where the Veil shimmered between the oaks, Nyx thinned. Their voice came on the air without a mouth. "This place remembers me. It remembers Aldric." Aurora glanced across. Her blue eyes narrowed against the distortion. "You said you slipped between shadows. This isn't shadow." Nyx's form stretched. Their shoulders broadened, then dissolved into a ribbon that curled around the nearest stone before snapping back to a humanoid shape. "All doors open to the same hallway." Isolde waited on the other side. She lifted a hand, palm up, fingers curled as if offering something invisible. "The bargain is simple. One hour for many. Many for one. You enter as guests." Aurora stepped through. The sound hit first. The park's distant traffic, the crows, the joggers' trainers on path — all cut out. Replacement sound filled the gap. Leaves rustled where no wind moved. Water ran over stone where no stream showed. A low hum rose from the ground, a note held on a string too long. Then colour. Light fell wrong. It held an amber edge throughout, warm, thick as honey, though no sun broke the canopy. The Grove opened beyond the stones, larger than the circle should have allowed. Ancient oaks formed a vault, branches interlaced into a cathedral roof. Wildflowers carpeted the floor in a riot that ignored season. Frost clung to the stones behind them, but ahead foxgloves and bluebells and flowers Aurora had no name for pushed through green moss, open, vivid, heads turned to a light with no source. "Jesus." Aurora's hand went to the pendant without thought. The deep crimson Heartstone burned against her sternum, a pulse of heat that beat out of rhythm with her heart. She pulled it from under her collar. The stone caught the amber light and threw it back darker. Nyx solidified. For a breath their feet touched moss and left prints. Then the prints faded, the moss springing back. "Time folds here." Isolde moved deeper. She did not disturb a single stem. "An hour inside can drink a day outside. Or spit you out before you draw breath. The Grove decides." Aurora followed. Each step sank a fraction, as if the ground breathed under her boots. The Fae blade grew colder, an ache against her leg that spread up through her hip. She pressed her palm to it, and the moonsilver dagger's leaf-shaped surface drank the amber light and held it. She crouched beside a patch of low white flowers. Each petal held a bead of dew that reflected the canopy, not the sky. She brushed one. Pollen dusted her fingertip and the pollen glittered, lit from within. "These shouldn't be alive. It's December." Isolde smiled. Her pale lavender eyes never left the trees. "What lives here lives because it remembers summer. Summer remembers it." Nyx knelt beside Aurora. Their shadow hand passed through the flower, incorporeal, then firmed. When they touched the bloom, the petals curled inward, shy, then opened again wider. Their violet gaze lifted to the branches. "Listen." Aurora held still. The hum resolved into layers. Under the rustle and the water, voices wove. Not words. The impression of words. A laugh that rippled through bark. A sigh that moved through root. Unease prickled up Aurora's spine. She looked back over her shoulder. The three oak stones framed a perfect circle of grey London winter. The gap looked small, distant, though she had taken ten steps. The shimmer of the Veil stretched across the gap like heat haze above road, faint, iridescent, and it rippled when she stared. "We came through there. That still goes back." Nyx tilted their head. Their form flickered, solid then smoke. "For now. The Veil thins when winter holds. In summer it seals." Aurora straightened. Her delivery bag knocked against her side, absurd and ordinary against the flowers that never wilted. She caught the strap and steadied it. "So we walk in midwinter because the door sticks open. Great." Isolde paused beside a pool that had not been visible a moment before. Water lay still between roots, dark, glass. It mirrored the oak vault but the reflection showed more stars than branches, a night sky caught under earth. She knelt. Her reflection did not appear. "Ask, and the Grove shows. Take, and the Grove takes." Aurora approached. The air around the pool dropped a degree. The Heartstone's heat spiked against her chest, then dulled, confused by the water's cold. The Fae blade pulsed in counterpoint, so cold it burned. Nyx stood at the rim. Their reflection did appear, but wrong. For a heartbeat the shape in the water wore a man's face, bearded, eyes closed, before shadow swallowed it again. Nyx stepped back. Their edges frayed. Aurora stared into the pool. Blue eyes stared back, black hair framed against amber light. Behind her reflection the oaks stretched taller than they did above, roots deep as towers, and between the roots shapes moved — not animals, not people, slipstream figures of light and bark. She rocked back on her heels. "What's under there?" Isolde trailed fingers above the surface. The water did not ripple. "What grows without sun. What waits without hunger." Nyx's voice thinned to a thread. "We need movement. Still water holds." Isolde rose in a single motion. She led them past the pool and the ground rose. The flowers gave way to moss thick as carpet, then to a low hill crowned with stone. Not a built wall. A single slab, rough, lichen-split, thrust from the earth at an angle, etched with spirals that caught amber light and held it long after the angle should have shadowed them. Aurora ran her hand over the carving. The stone was warm. The spirals turned under her palm, an illusion of motion. The crescent scar on her wrist itched. "Who cut this?" Isolde placed her own hand beside Aurora's. Where Isolde touched, the spirals brightened. "They who walked before the park had a name. They who bargained with root and stone." Nyx circled the slab. Where their shadow fell, the spirals dimmed. "A ward. Old. Fae work." Aurora drew the blade. The moonsilver cleared its sheath with a soft hiss and the air around it crisped. The dagger's faint luminescence strengthened. In its glow the spirals revealed a second layer, finer lines between the bold cuts, a script that shifted when viewed direct. She angled the blade. The cold bit into her fingers. "It cuts wards. Isolde said." Isolde's eyes flicked to the blade, then to Aurora's face. "A gift cuts both ways. Use or be used." Aurora lowered the dagger. She slid it back into its sheath but the cold lingered. The hilltop opened a view of the whole Grove. From here the space revealed its impossibility. The oak vault extended further than Richmond Park allowed, a pocket stitched between earth and elsewhere. Light pooled in places with no canopy break. Flowers opened and closed in slow breath. The hum rose and fell with that breath. Nyx stood at the edge of the hill, solid again, tall, their violet eyes fixed on the far treeline where amber light thickened to gold. "Excess lives there, beyond. You feel it." Aurora followed their gaze. The air in that direction tasted sweet, heavy, spiced. "Another door." Isolde nodded. Her silver hair stirred though no wind touched Aurora. "Many doors. The Grove touches Hel as Hel touches earth. The Veil wears thin for all." Aurora's pendant gave a sharp throb against her skin, hot enough to make her inhale. She pressed her palm to it through her shirt. "Not this one. Not yet." Nyx looked down at her. Their face was smoke, but their eyes held steady. "You brought a key that seeks a lock." Aurora curled her fingers around the Heartstone. Its deep crimson beat steadied. The blade at her hip cooled to a dull ache. "Then we keep it in our pocket till we choose the door." She turned in a slow circle on the hilltop. The Grove turned with her, light and shadow trading places, flowers tracking her movement. The oak stones behind them still framed a London winter, small and grey and real. Nyx stepped close. Their incorporeal edge brushed Aurora's shoulder and for a moment held solid, warm as static. "Keep to the moss. The flowers remember footsteps." Isolde already descended the hill. Her passage left the moss unbent. Aurora followed, boots sinking then springing, Nyx flowing at her side, the amber light thickening around them as they moved deeper between the trees.
