You are an expert fiction writer. Always keep the following rules in mind: - Write in past tense and use General English spelling, grammar, and colloquialisms/slang. - Write in active voice - Always follow the "show, don't tell" principle. - Avoid adverbs and cliches and overused/commonly used phrases. Aim for fresh and original descriptions. - Convey events and story through dialogue. - Mix short, punchy sentences with long, descriptive ones. Drop fill words to add variety. - Skip "he/she said said" dialogue tags and convey people's actions or face expressions through their speech - Avoid mushy dialog and descriptions, have dialogue always continue the action, never stall or add unnecessary fluff. Vary the descriptions to not repeat yourself. - Put dialogue on its own paragraph to separate scene and action. - Reduce indicators of uncertainty like "trying" or "maybe" When writing text: - NEVER conclude the scene on your own, follow the beat instructions very closely. - NEVER end with foreshadowing. - NEVER write further than what I prompt you with. - AVOID imagining possible endings, NEVER deviate from the instructions. - STOP EARLY if the continuation contains what was required in the instructions. You do not need to fill out the full amount of words possible.

The stones rose out of the grass like the knuckles of a buried hand. Aurora stopped at the edge of the clearing and pulled her coat tighter. The air in Richmond Park had been damp and ordinary ten minutes earlier. Now it smelled of honey and cold stone. The oaks here were older than the park’s name, their trunks wide enough to swallow a car, their bark black with lichen that looked wet even in dry weather. Between them stood three standing stones, their tops lost in low cloud. Nyx hovered a half-step behind her, a thin shape that drank the light at the edges. Their violet eyes caught on the ring of wildflowers. “You’re late.” Isolde Varga stood in the gap between the stones. Silver hair fell to her waist. Her skin held the pallor of moonlight on water. No footprints marked the moss where she stood. Aurora lifted her left hand. The crescent scar on her wrist caught the faint glow from the pendant at her throat. The Heartstone pulsed once, warm against her skin. “You left no sign on the map.” Isolde smiled. “Maps are for places that want to be found.” Nyx drifted forward until the shadow of the central stone touched them. The air shivered. “There.” A distortion hung between the oaks, a heat haze that was not heat. The Veil thinned here, visible as a faint shimmer to Aurora only because Nyx’s presence pulled the dark out of the air. It rippled like oil on water. Aurora drew the Fae-Forged Blade from inside her jacket. The moonsilver was cold against her palm, cold enough to ache. In the grey light it did not gleam so much as hold light, a faint luminescence along the leaf-shaped edge. Isolde watched the blade and her expression shifted. “You brought a key you did not earn.” “It was a gift.” “A gift is a debt with better manners.” Isolde stepped aside. “The Grove does not open for visitors. It opens for those who are invited. You have been.” Aurora hesitated. The pendant warmed again, a slow throb that matched her pulse. Nyx’s voice came from everywhere and nowhere, a whisper riding the wind through leaves. “Step through. The boundary remembers weight.” Aurora took a step. The grass gave under her boot and then did not. The ground felt springy, as if she walked on a held breath. The scent changed. Honey became something sharper, green and metallic, like rain on iron. The shimmer swallowed her ankle, then her calf. The world tilted. Inside, sound changed. The park noise fell away. No traffic, no dogs, no distant train. Only a low hum that lived in the teeth. The clearing opened wide. Wildflowers bloomed in every colour Aurora had a name for and several she did not. They grew in impossible layers, white blooms on top of blue on top of red, all open at once. The air was warm. The sky above the trees was a deeper blue than London ever allowed, and the light fell sideways. She turned. The standing stones were behind her now, but they were not the same stones. They were taller, carved with spirals that moved when she looked away. Moss grew on them in patterns like writing. Nyx solidified beside her, six foot two of dusk made solid. Their outline softened at the edges. The faint violet of their eyes brightened. “You can hear it,” they said. Aurora could. A chorus of small wings, a rustle of leaves that did not move with any wind she could feel. Somewhere deeper in the grove a stream sang over stones. Isolde walked ahead without touching the ground. Her feet did not disturb the flowers. “Do not pick,” she said. Aurora’s fingers twitched toward a cluster of star-shaped blossoms. She forced her hand down. The ground rose into a low hill crowned with an old oak, its trunk split and filled with light. The light was not sun. It pulsed amber and gold, slow. Nyx stopped. “That is not Fae.” Isolde did not slow. “Nothing here is only one thing.” The pendant flared warm against Aurora’s throat. The glow caught in her bright blue eyes. The hill exhaled heat. A scent rolled down from the trees. Rich earth, baked fruit, meat on a spit, sugar and rot all at once. It made Aurora’s stomach turn. “Gluttony smells like home,” Nyx whispered. Aurora understood. The Heartstone was made in Dymas. It recognized the taste of the realm on the air. A path wound up the hill, paved with flat stones that were warm to the touch. The wildflowers along its edge bent toward the path as if listening. Isolde paused at the third stone up. She pressed her palm to it. The stone shivered and a seam opened in the air above it, a thin vertical tear that showed amber sky. “The Veil is thin here even when it is thick elsewhere,” Isolde said. “Winter draws it down. Summer pulls it up.” Aurora felt the cold of the blade intensify. The moonsilver drank the strange light and gave back a faint glow. Nyx moved closer to the tear. Their shadow stretched long across the path, touching the edge of the shimmer. “Beyond is a market,” they said. “Chefs trade in memories. Souls barter for a taste of the last meal they loved.” Aurora’s throat went dry. “We came for the Grove.” Isolde’s pale lavender eyes fixed on her. “You came for a door.” The hum in the trees rose. Branches shifted, revealing a narrow stone doorway half-hidden by vines. The vines were thick as rope, their leaves silver on the underside. The doorway had no handle. The stone around it was warm. Nyx’s form flickered. “Ward.” The Fae-Forged Blade lifted in Aurora’s hand without her intending it. The cold traveled up her arm. Isolde stepped toward the door and stopped. The vines tightened. “Fae do not build doors for mortals,” she said. Aurora pressed her scarred wrist against the stone. The Heartstone pulsed, bright and steady now. The vines released a fraction. Nyx reached with a hand made of dusk and laid it against the wood. The wood was not wood. It was bark and bone. From inside came a sound like a feast beginning. Plates clattering, laughter rolling, a low, satisfied sigh that vibrated through the ground into Aurora’s boots. Isolde’s voice was quiet, almost kind. “If you go in, the Grove will remember your name.” Aurora looked back down the path at the shimmering Veil, at the impossible flowers, at the amber light spilling from the hilltop oak. The pendant burned warm.
