My horse, a majestic stallion named Thunder, galloped across the open field. The wind whipped through my hair as I rode towards the castle gates. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the stone walls. I could see the banners of the kingdom fluttering in the breeze.

<nc-section data-title="Version 1 - Red: A Stern Welcome" data-color="red"> The dust had barely settled from Thunder's hooves when Frederick dismounted near the stables, still clutching the strap of his travel pack. A broad-shouldered knight in dented plate stepped from the shadows of the stable arch, his horse's tack clinking as he ran a hand down his mount's flank. "Sir Roland," Frederick managed, straightening. The local knight eyed him up and down, not unkindly but without warmth. "You are the squire the King sent. Frederick." It was a statement, not a question. "You rode hard. Good. The horses here need a firm hand, and so do you." He gestured to the stalls. "Thunder will be stabled in three. You'll muck it yourself before supper. Training starts at dawn, not when you feel rested. Follow me." Frederick swallowed, nodded, and followed Sir Roland into the smell of hay and leather, the weight of expectation settling heavier than his pack. </nc-section> <nc-section data-title="Version 2 - Green: A Warm Handshake" data-color="green"> Frederick was still brushing the sweat from Thunder's neck when a familiar laugh echoed from the stable yard. Sir Roland, the local knight, came striding out with his cloak caught in the breeze, a grin already spreading across his weathered face. "Well now," Sir Roland said, clapping a large hand on Frederick's shoulder. "I wondered if the road had swallowed you. You made good time." Frederick flushed with relief. "Sir, I — I didn't mean to arrive at dusk." "Nonsense," Roland replied, taking the reins gently. "Dusk is the best time. The horses are calm, and the boys are hungry for a story. Come, I'll see Thunder settled. He's a fine beast you've got." He guided Frederick past the stalls, speaking of the castle, of the squires who came before, and of the small kindness of a warm meal waiting in the kitchen. For the first time since leaving home, Frederick felt he might belong. </nc-section> <nc-section data-title="Version 3 - Blue: A Test by the Stables" data-color="blue"> Frederick led Thunder toward the empty stall nearest the gate, when the stable doors creaked open on their own. Sir Roland stood there, silent, his visor up, watching the young squire struggle with the horse's reins in the fading light. "You can ride," Roland said quietly. "Can you listen?" Frederick froze. "Sir Roland." "The stables are the heart of a castle," the knight continued, stepping closer. The stable boys fell still. "A horse will tell you when a squire is afraid. Thunder is nervous because you are. Breathe. Lower your voice. Touch him here, not there." He demonstrated with calm hands. Thunder's ears relaxed. Roland's gaze held Frederick's for a long moment. "Tomorrow you will learn sword and shield," he said. "Tonight you learn patience. Show me you understand before I take you to the master-at-arms." Frederick nodded, and for the first time, he truly looked at the horse before him. </nc-section>
