You are an expert fiction writer. Always keep the following rules in mind: - Write in past tense and use General English spelling, grammar, and colloquialisms/slang. - Write in active voice - Always follow the "show, don't tell" principle. - Avoid adverbs and cliches and overused/commonly used phrases. Aim for fresh and original descriptions. - Convey events and story through dialogue. - Mix short, punchy sentences with long, descriptive ones. Drop fill words to add variety. - Skip "he/she said said" dialogue tags and convey people's actions or face expressions through their speech - Avoid mushy dialog and descriptions, have dialogue always continue the action, never stall or add unnecessary fluff. Vary the descriptions to not repeat yourself. - Put dialogue on its own paragraph to separate scene and action. - Reduce indicators of uncertainty like "trying" or "maybe" When writing text: - NEVER conclude the scene on your own, follow the beat instructions very closely. - NEVER end with foreshadowing. - NEVER write further than what I prompt you with. - AVOID imagining possible endings, NEVER deviate from the instructions. - STOP EARLY if the continuation contains what was required in the instructions. You do not need to fill out the full amount of words possible.

A small group enters an ancient, otherworldly place for the first time. The environment is alien and wondrous. Describe their exploration — what they see, hear, and feel as they move deeper. Include moments of discovery, unease, and wonder. Let the world-building emerge through the characters' experience rather than exposition. Use the codex entries above as your world reference for characters, setting, and lore. Only include the prose of the scene without any markdown or commentary. </instructions>

The standing stones rose out of the bracken like the ribs of something that had died standing up. Aurora counted them as she walked between the first two. Eleven. Each one was oak, not stone, grey and split and furred with lichen, and each bore a band of carved knots that she could not quite follow with her eyes. The lines kept slipping sideways when she looked away. Behind her, the London traffic on the Richmond road had gone silent. She had not noticed the moment it stopped. "Don't look back at the gap," Isolde said, without turning her head. Her silver hair moved down her back in one unbroken fall, and she walked a half-step ahead of them across the grass. Aurora had watched her cross a patch of mud twenty minutes earlier. The mud had not taken a print. Neither had the dew. "Why not?" Aurora asked. "Because the gap will have moved, and you will want to find where it went." Nyx drifted at the edge of the group, a long dark shape that folded and unfolded against the trunks. Where the light from the canopy struck them, they became solid, a tall figure of shadow with a faint violet glow behind the eyes. Where it did not, they simply were not there, and the tree behind them stood unbroken. When they spoke, the voice came in on the wind, thin and carried, like a whisper passed down a corridor. "Her sense of direction is the only thing in this wood that holds still," Nyx said. "I would keep close to it." "Good advice," Aurora said. "Shame I didn't get any of it in writing." Nyx's laugh was a rustle through dry leaves. Aurora felt the sound more than she heard it, a brush against the back of her neck. The grass changed under her boots. It had been thin and brown on the way in, the dead patchwork of an English autumn, but now it grew thick and bright and wet, and between the blades opened flowers she did not recognise. Some had petals like folded paper, others like wax. A cluster of blue ones hummed when the wind passed over them. Aurora crouched and reached for one. Isolde's voice stopped her before her fingers closed. "They are not for picking. They will remember your hand." Aurora drew her hand back and watched the bloom tilt towards her, then slowly swing back to face the sky. "Right," she said. "Noted." She stood and her left wrist caught the light. The small crescent scar she had carried since childhood looked whiter than usual, and her fingers moved over it without thinking, the way they always did when a room felt wrong. The room was not a room. The sky through the trees had gone the colour of warm honey, though the sun was nowhere she could find it. Somewhere to her right, water ran over stones, but when she turned her head towards the sound, it came from behind her. The pendant under her collar was cool against her breastbone. Since the night it had arrived in her flat, wrapped in tissue inside a plain box with no return address, it had warmed whenever she came near anything strange. Now it lay still against her skin. She could not decide whether that was reassuring. "You have the blade," Isolde said. It was not a question. Isolde's words never were, quite. Aurora drew the Fae-forged dagger from the sheath at her hip. The moonsilver blade slid free with a whisper, and the cold of it bit into her palm before she had even properly gripped the hilt. It always did that. She had stopped trying to warm it in her hand weeks ago. In the strange light of the grove, the blade gave off a faint luminescence along its edge, pale as a reflection in still water. "It likes this place," Aurora said. "It was made here," Isolde said. "Or near enough. Everything made by the Courts remembers the way home." "And what about the things that aren't made here?" Isolde stopped walking. For the first time since the stones, she turned around. Her pale lavender eyes held Aurora's for a long moment, and there was something almost like pity in them. "Then they must learn it," she said. "Or they stay lost." The path ahead bent between two trees whose bark had split into deep pale grooves, and beyond them the air shimmered like heat above a road. Nyx slid forward, the edges of their body blurring, and paused at the threshold. The violet glow in their eyes brightened. "Something is listening," they whispered. "Not the trees. Something under them." Aurora tightened her grip on the blade. The cold crept up her forearm to the elbow, and she welcomed it, because it was the one thing in this place she understood. "Lead on, then," she said.
