The small town bakery was filled with the sweet aroma of freshly baked pastries and cakes. The bell above the door jingled as a woman and a man entered. They walked to the back of the store and sat down at one of the tiny tables. The woman pulled out a notebook from her purse and began flipping through the pages. "I don't know why I didn't think of it before," she said, looking up at the man. "The bookstore owner mentioned that Missy's mother used to work at the bakery. Maybe she would have some insight into Missy's whereabouts." "It's worth a shot," the man agreed, taking a sip of his coffee. They both watched as a young woman wearing an apron walked over to their table. "Can I help you with something?" she asked. The woman with the notebook smiled. "Actually, we're hoping you might be able to help us. We're looking for a friend of yours named Missy." The young woman's face turned serious. "Missy? She hasn't been around for a while. Her mom used to work here, you know. She passed away a few months ago." The man frowned. "I'm sorry to hear that. Did Missy leave town after her mother's passing?" The young woman shrugged. "I don't know. She just stopped showing up one day. But everyone around here misses her." The woman with the notebook nodded. "Thank you for your help. If you happen to see her or hear from her, please let us know." As they stood to leave, the man turned to the woman. "Do you think it was something we said at the bookstore that made her leave?" The woman shrugged. "We can't be sure, but it's worth investigating."
