Molly examined the blueprints spread across the wobbly kitchen table, a set of plastic pink sunglasses perched precariously on her nose. "So, there's a total of seven layers of security here," she announced, tapping a red marker on the diagram. "Toaster oven. Two guard dogs named Buttercup and Snuggles, a unicorn piñata that probably contains enough sugar to fuel a small army, and a mother with the glaring intensity of a hawk." Bill leaned back in a stolen chair, his gaze lazily following the path of a stray cat winding its way through the catnip-stuffed toys littering the floor. "Seven layers, huh? Sounds like a blast." Molly scoffed, pushing her glasses up her nose. "It's not a blast, Bill, it's a calculated risk. We've got to be slicker than a greased otter in a Slip 'N Slide." "Ooh, a greased otter," Bill mused, tracing the outline of the otter in an imaginary Slip 'N Slide with his finger. "Now, that's inspiration right there." "Billy," Molly sighed, "focus!" She tapped the diagram again, this time pointing to a clustered red rectangle. "The presents. According to my intel, they're housed in a Fortress of Glory constructed entirely of aluminum foil, secured by a plastic dinosaur lock, guarded by a drool-producing spaniel named Sparky. You'll be dealing with Sparky." Bill shuddered. "Sparky, huh? This whole thing is starting to feel less like a heist and more like taking a bite out of a sticky, slobbery chew toy." Molly grabbed her marker and drew a large, menacing X over Sparky's prone form on the plans. "I've got a plan for Sparky," she whispered conspiratorially. "It involves a strategically placed bowl of peanut butter and a bit of misdirection." "Brilliant, Molly!" Bill exclaimed, throwing his arms open wide. "We're unstoppable. It's almost too easy." "Don't jinx it," Molly warned, sticking another piece of tape to the already peeling edge of the perimeter fence drawing. "Don't worry," Bill said, casually tossing a plastic tiara into the air and catching it just as it landed on his head. "Have you ever met a thief who wasn't a walking, talking, ridiculously lucky jinx magnet? We're practically swimming in good fortune." Molly rolled her eyes, muttering something about the dangers of peanut butter stains and the ineptitude of villains named Sparky. But as she looked at Bill, a smile tugged at the corner of her lips. Maybe, just maybe, a little bit of that good fortune would rub off on them after all.
