Molly and Bill sat across from each other at a small, round table in the back corner of a dingy diner, the kind of place where the florescent lighting gave everyone a sickly pallor and the coffee was strong enough to strip paint. Outside, the sun shone brightly on a typical Saturday afternoon, but inside it might as well have been the dead of night—the perfect time for a heist. "So, are you in or out, Bill?" Molly asked, her green eyes sparkling with excitement. She tapped her long fingernails on the table, her red lipstick standing out against the dull backdrop. "We can't leave all those presents unguarded. It's a crime, really." Bill, a lanky man with a permanent five o'clock shadow, scratched his chin thoughtfully. "It's a kids' party, Molly. How hard can it be? We walk in, we grab the goods, we walk out. Easy peasy." "That's the spirit!" Molly clapped her hands, making the silver bracelets jangling on her wrists clang together. "I knew you'd see the potential in this job. Those parents are so busy chasing after their sugar-high offspring that they won't even notice us slipping in and out with the presents." "Yeah, and if they do notice, we can just blend in with the crowd." Bill leaned forward, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "I heard the Johnson boy's birthday is quite the affair. Clowns, magicians, and enough cake to feed a small army." Molly's eyes widened at the mention of cake. "Don't remind me. I've been on a strict diet of kale smoothies and rice cakes this week to fit into my new catsuit. One bite of that cake and all my hard work will be for nothing." Bill snorted. "You and your crazy preparations. Catsuit? Really? I'm just gonna wear my usual black getup. No one ever notices a guy in black at these things." "You underestimate the power of a good costume, Billy Boy." Molly winked. "But fine, less chitchat and more planning. We should probably scope out the place beforehand, make sure we know all the exits and hiding spots." "Exits and hiding spots?" Bill scoffed. "This isn't some diamond heist, Mol. It's a kids' party." "And your point is?" "My point is, we shouldn't overcomplicate things. We go in, grab the loot, and get out. Simple." Molly sat back, a playful smile on her face. "Oh, Bill. When did you become such a boring, old fuddy-duddy? Where's your sense of adventure? Your desire to embrace the unknown?" "It disappeared the last time we embraced the unknown and ended up being chased by a pack of rabid dogs," Bill grumbled. Molly burst out laughing, drawing a few glares from neighboring patrons. "Oh, come on. That just added a little excitement to an otherwise boring gem-snatching job. And this time, instead of rabid dogs, we might get hit with a face full of piñata candy. Now, that's a risk I'm willing to take."
