Molly and Bill sat in the living room, surrounded by an assortment of tools and blueprints, each of them intent on the task at hand. Molly's hair was styled in a messy bun atop her head, cards and schematics spilling from her hands. Bill, with his nose buried in a worn copy of "The Big Book of Burglar Tricks," occasionally looked up between pages to peer at her progress. "So tell me again," he said, closing his book, "Why we gotta rob a kid's party?" Molly rolled her eyes. "Because," she said, shaking a roll of duct tape at him, "everyone brings presents to kid's parties. All we gotta do is slide in and grab the loot." Bill took the roll from her and inspected it. "The only thing I see sliding during this party is cake and punch," he said. "And sugar rushes." "Mmhm," agreed Molly, ignoring his comment. She flourished a key on a chain. "We have the key to the front for starters. And the back exit is easy for an escape — all we need to do is knock out the reluctant babysitter." "And how exactly do we do that?" Bill asked, raising a thick eyebrow. Molly's quick grin was offset by her sudden seriousness. "Maybe we should put a lock on the keywords," she suggested, placing an index finger to her chin. "Questions what?" "I mean," Bill said, half-heartedly shaking his head, "Knocking out a babysitter. That part might get tricky." "Ah." Molly nodded in understanding. "See about the lullabies there, make them doze right off." Bill blinked. "You mean, with music...?" "Exactly." Molly nodded. "And maybe a couple of well-placed sedatives from my purse, just in case. Should see 'em off in no time." "Ooh." Bill grinned, "A bit much for simple robbery, don't you think?" "Better safe than sorry," Molly said, shrugging. "Especially in this neighborhood. You know how protective parents get with their kids nowadays." She finished her plan, a confident glint in her eye. Bill chuckled, still shaking his head. "I like your thinking, Molly," he said. "ButI gotta admit, I have reservations about the babysitter situation." "Ah, spill," Molly urged with a knowing smile. "Just one," Bill said, scratching his chin thoughtfully. "What if the parents happen to drop by early?" "Not gonna be a problem," Molly said, holding up her power suit. "Quick change in the ladies' room. We're in and out the door before they've even put the cake on display." "Mmhmm." Bill nodded, amused. "Now explain the big idea of us pulling off a kid's party heist just for a bunch of worthless, supposedly unloved presents." Molly's grin turned sly. "Think about it," she said. "How else could we have enough time and space for launching this kind of operation without riling up the competition?" Bill's eyes widened. "You don't mean...?" Molly nodded, laughter dancing in her eyes. "It's a surprise, after all. The least we could do is make it a spectacle." "And not just any spectacle," Bill interjected, his grin matching hers now. "A spectacle of generosity." Molly chuckled, shaking her head at him. "You know I can't turn down a good deed, Bill," she said, "especially this kind of one." "Agreed." Bill nodded. "Even if it does mean getting the party crashed and smashed." "Even so," Molly said, now fully smiling. "We've got the plan down, the tools, and the skills. Bring on the presents." And with that, the two thieves continued their preparations, determined to make this the most talked-about party, not just in the town, but in the region.
