“Alright, so here’s the plan,” Molly said, spreading out the floor plans on the table. “The party’s on Saturday afternoon, and the bulk of the adults will be in the backyard playing games with the kids. That’s our window.” “And we’re going in through the front door?” Bill asked, peering at the map. “Of course. We’ll blend in with the other parents dropping off their kids. Once we’re inside, we’ll head straight for the present table. I’ve heard the birthday kid’s got a mountain of gifts from relatives, so it shouldn’t be hard to spot.” “And then what?” “And then we grab what we can and make a run for it. We’ll stash the loot in the van and get out of there before anyone knows what hit them.” “What about the kids? Won’t they notice us snatching their presents?” Molly rolled her eyes. “Please. Do you remember what it was like to be twelve? Half of them will be too busy playing games to notice a thing.” “And the other half?” “The other half will be too shocked to say anything. By the time they work up the nerve to say something, we’ll be long gone.” Bill nodded, though he didn’t look entirely convinced. “And what do we do with the presents once we have them?” “We pawn them, of course. We’ll hit up a few different shops to avoid arousing suspicion. With any luck, we’ll be able to turn a tidy profit.” “And what if we get caught?” Molly smirked. “Then we’ll just have to improvise. But trust me, with our charm and quick wit, we’ll be able to talk our way out of anything.” Bill smiled at that, though he still seemed a bit uneasy. “Alright, let’s do this. And if anything goes wrong, remember: you promised me a steak dinner if we pull this off.” “Don’t worry,” Molly said, standing up and picking up the floor plans. “With our plan, we can’t go wrong.
