"Bill, are you sure this is the right address?" Molly whispered, peering through the bushes at the brightly decorated house. "Of course, I'm sure," Bill replied, adjusting his ski mask. "I double-checked the invitation. This is Timmy Thompson's seventh birthday party. Prime target." "Timmy Thompson? Sounds like a kid who'd have a lot of rich relatives," Molly said, nodding approvingly. "Alright, what's the plan?" "Simple," Bill said, pulling out a crumpled piece of paper. "We blend in with the entertainment. You’re the clown, and I’m the magician." "A clown? Really, Bill?" Molly groaned. "I hate clowns. They’re creepy." "Exactly," Bill grinned. "No one will suspect a creepy clown. Plus, you get to wear a wig. No one will recognize you." "Fine," Molly sighed, grabbing the red wig and oversized shoes from the bag. "But if I get a pie in the face, I’m blaming you." "Deal," Bill chuckled. "Now, once we’re inside, we need to locate the presents. They’ll probably be in the living room, near the cake." "And the kids?" Molly asked, slipping into her clown costume. "What if they get in the way?" "That’s where my magic comes in," Bill said, pulling out a deck of cards. "I’ll distract them with some tricks. Kids love magic." "Alright, Houdini," Molly said, rolling her eyes. "Let’s get this over with." They approached the front door, and Bill rang the bell. A harried-looking woman answered, her eyes widening at the sight of them. "Oh, thank goodness you’re here!" she exclaimed. "The kids have been driving me crazy. Come in, come in!" "Happy to help," Bill said, tipping his magician’s hat. "I’m Bill the Magnificent, and this is my assistant, Giggles the Clown." "Hi, kids!" Molly said in a high-pitched voice, waving her gloved hands. The children squealed with delight and ran over to them. "Alright, everyone, gather around!" Bill announced, pulling out his deck of cards. "Who wants to see a magic trick?" The kids cheered, and Bill began his performance, expertly shuffling the cards and making them disappear and reappear. Molly took the opportunity to slip away, heading towards the living room. "Okay, presents, where are you?" she muttered, scanning the room. She spotted a pile of brightly wrapped gifts in the corner and grinned. "Bingo." She quickly started stuffing the presents into a large sack, glancing over her shoulder to make sure no one was watching. Just as she was about to grab the last gift, a small voice piped up behind her. "Hey, what are you doing?" Molly spun around to see a little girl with pigtails staring at her suspiciously. "Uh, just checking the presents, sweetie," she said, forcing a smile. "Making sure they’re all here." "Why are you putting them in that bag?" the girl asked, frowning. "Uh, it’s a magic trick!" Molly said, thinking quickly. "I’m going to make them disappear and then reappear. Want to see?" The girl’s eyes widened. "Really? Cool!" "Yep, but you have to keep it a secret, okay?" Molly said, winking. "It’s a surprise for everyone." "Okay!" the girl whispered, giggling. "I won’t tell." Molly breathed a sigh of relief and finished packing the presents. She hurried back to the party, where Bill was finishing his act. "And for my final trick," Bill announced, "I will make myself disappear!" He threw down a smoke bomb, and in the ensuing chaos, he and Molly slipped out the back door, the sack of presents slung over her shoulder. "That was too close," Molly panted as they ran down the street. "Yeah, but we did it," Bill said, grinning. "Happy birthday, Timmy Thompson. Enjoy your magic show."
