Molly and Bill sat across from each other in a dimly lit booth, sipping lukewarm coffee and huddled over a large napkin covered in sketches and scribbles. The neon sign of the all-night diner buzzed above them, casting an eerie glow on their faces. "Alright, Bill," Molly said, her voice low and conspiratorial, "we've got the layout of the place, the best times to enter and exit, and our costumes are ready. What's the plan to get us past the party entertainers?" Bill rubbed his chin, his eyes scanning the diagram before him. "Well, first, we'll sneak in through the janitor's closet. It's the easiest way to avoid any prying eyes. Once we're inside, we'll make our way to the gift table. We'll need to be quick, though - those parents are always keeping a close eye on the presents." Molly nodded, her flame-red hair falling across her forehead. "I'll take care of the parents. What costume are you planning on wearing? The magician?" Bill smirked. "Nah, too obvious. I'm going as Mr. Potato Head. Who would suspect a children's party of having a potato thief?" Molly choked on her coffee. "You're insane." "That's why they call me Bill 'The Wild Card'," he replied, grinning. As they discussed their strategy, a group of rowdy teenagers barged into the diner, yelling and laughing. One of them slumped into the booth next to them, practically on top of their plans. "Hey, watch it, buddy," Molly growled as she nudged him away. The teenager, bleary-eyed and drunk, sneered. "What's all this, then? A secret meeting of the Thieves Guild or something?" Molly froze, her heart pounding. Bill tossed her a warning glance. "Just a couple of friends having a late-night snack," he said, trying to sound casual. The teenager's eyes narrowed. "Friends who have a lot of paper and pens out, huh?" Molly and Bill exchanged a panicked look. Their cover was blown. "Look, pal," Bill said, trying to ease the situation, "we're just planning a surprise birthday party for our friend. It's a top-secret thing." The teenager snickered. "Oh, sure, a surprise birthday party in a dingy all-night diner, sounds legit." Molly's eyes flashed with anger. She grabbed a hold of the teenager's arm and yanked him out of the booth, her face an inch from his. "Listen, we're trying to have a quiet conversation here. Don't be an ass or we'll make you part of our surprise party." The teenager's grin faltered, but he managed to laugh it off. "Yeah, I'll just go find a different booth. No big deal." As he stumbled away, Molly returned to their plan, her voice tense. "We need a diversion. Something to draw all the parents' attention away from the gift table." Bill pursed his lips, deep in thought. "A clown balloon animal? Too obvious." Molly's eyes lit up. "Wait, I've got it. We'll distract them with a piñata. Everyone loves a good piñata, right?" Bill squinted. "A piñata at a children's party? Are you nuts?" "No, a piñata filled with flour bombs. When the parents rush to stop the commotion, we make our move." Bill's eyebrows shot up. "Now that's thinking outside the box." With a nod, they continued to finalize their scheme, unaware that the drunken teenager was scribbling their plan on a napkin and leaving it on the counter as he exited the diner. As Molly and Bill settled their coffee tab and split, they didn't realize their surprise was about to become a whole lot more unexpected.
