Molly tapped her foot impatiently as she waited for Bill to arrive at their usual meeting spot behind the abandoned grocery store. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the cracked pavement. She checked her watch for the third time in as many minutes. Finally, a beat-up sedan pulled into the lot, and Bill stumbled out, clutching a greasy paper bag. "You're late," Molly hissed as he approached. Bill shrugged, offering her the bag. "I brought tacos." Molly snatched the bag and peered inside. "I hope you remembered the hot sauce this time." "Course I did. I'm not an amateur," Bill replied, looking mildly offended. They sat on the curb, unwrapping their dinner as Molly pulled out a crumpled invitation from her pocket. "So, what's the deal with this job?" Bill asked through a mouthful of taco. Molly smoothed out the colorful paper. "It's a birthday party for some rich kid. Tommy's turning six, and his parents are throwing him a bash at the country club." Bill raised an eyebrow. "We're hitting a kid's party? That's low, even for us." "Hey, desperate times," Molly shrugged. "Besides, these brats are getting iPads and gaming consoles. It's not like we're stealing stuffed animals." Bill considered this for a moment, then nodded. "Fair enough. What's the plan?" Molly pulled out a rough sketch of the country club's layout. "The party's in the main ballroom. We'll enter through the kitchen, posing as caterers." "Caterers? I don't know the first thing about fancy food," Bill protested. "You don't need to. Just carry trays and look busy," Molly explained. "While the kids are distracted by the clown or whatever, we'll sneak into the gift room and grab what we can." Bill scratched his chin thoughtfully. "How are we getting out with all the loot?" "There's a service exit near the gift room. We'll load everything into your car and be gone before anyone notices," Molly said confidently. "Alright, sounds simple enough," Bill agreed. "But what if we get caught?" Molly grinned mischievously. "Then we'll just have to blame it on the birthday boy. No one will suspect the sweet little six-year-old." Bill chuckled. "You're evil, you know that?" "I prefer the term 'morally flexible,'" Molly replied with a wink. They finished their tacos in companionable silence, watching the last rays of sunlight disappear behind the horizon. "One more thing," Bill said as they stood up to leave. "What are we doing about disguises?" Molly reached into her bag and pulled out two ridiculous-looking wigs – one hot pink, the other neon green. "I've got us covered." Bill stared at the wigs in horror. "You can't be serious." "Dead serious. No one will recognize us in these," Molly insisted, plopping the green wig onto Bill's head. He sighed dramatically. "The things I do for money." As they walked to their cars, Molly couldn't help but laugh at the sight of her burly partner sporting a bright green mop on his head.
