Molly drummed her fingers on the steering wheel, her eyes fixed on the colorful balloons tied to the mailbox across the street. Bill slouched in the passenger seat, munching on a candy bar. "You sure about this, Molly?" Bill asked, his mouth full of chocolate. Molly rolled her eyes. "Of course I'm sure. It's foolproof." "I don't know. Stealing from kids? Seems a bit... you know..." "What? Low? Come on, Bill. Think about it. All those shiny new toys, unopened. It's a goldmine." Bill sighed, crumpling up the candy wrapper. "If you say so. But how are we gonna get in?" Molly grinned, reaching into the backseat and pulling out a garish clown costume. "With this, of course." "Oh no," Bill groaned. "I am not wearing that." "Relax, big guy. It's for me. You get to be the magician." Bill's eyes widened. "Magician? I don't know any magic tricks!" "You don't need to," Molly said, already slipping the clown suit over her clothes. "Just wave your hands around and say 'abracadabra' a lot. The kids'll eat it up." "And then what? We just grab the presents and run?" Molly shook her head, applying a ridiculous amount of red face paint to her nose. "No, no. We put on a show, scope out the goods, then sneak them out bit by bit. Easy peasy." Bill watched as Molly transformed herself into a terrifying clown. "I still think this is a bad idea." "Noted. Now put on your cape and top hat. It's showtime!" They climbed out of the car, Molly stumbling slightly in her oversized shoes. As they approached the house, the sounds of children laughing and screaming grew louder. "Remember," Molly whispered, "we're here to entertain. And rob. But mainly entertain." Bill nodded nervously, adjusting his fake mustache. "Right. Entertain and rob. Got it." Molly rang the doorbell, plastering on a huge, creepy smile. A frazzled-looking woman answered, relief washing over her face at the sight of them. "Oh, thank goodness you're here!" she exclaimed. "The kids are getting restless." "Never fear!" Molly boomed in an exaggerated voice. "Giggles the Clown and, uh... The Magnificent Maxwell are here to save the day!" Bill gave a weak wave. "Abracadabra?" The woman ushered them inside, where a horde of sugar-fueled children immediately swarmed them. Molly dove right in, making balloon animals and telling bad jokes, while Bill awkwardly pulled quarters from behind kids' ears. As they performed, they both kept a keen eye on the mountain of presents in the corner. Molly sidled up to Bill during a lull in the action. "Okay," she muttered, "I'll create a distraction. You start stuffing presents in your magic bag." Bill nodded, sweat beading on his forehead beneath the top hat. "Got it. What's the distraction?" Molly grinned wickedly. "You'll see. Just be ready." She turned to the crowd of children, arms spread wide. "Who wants to see Giggles do a special clown dance?" As the kids cheered, Molly launched into the most ridiculous, over-the-top performance Bill had ever seen. She flailed, she twirled, she even attempted a cartwheel that ended with her sprawled on the floor. Bill took advantage of the chaos, inching towards the presents. He had just grabbed the first one when a small voice piped up behind him. "What are you doing with my present, mister?" Bill froze, slowly turning to face a suspicious-looking little girl. He gulped, looking to Molly for help, but she was too busy trying to untangle herself from a pile of balloons. "Uh... abracadabra?"
