Molly leaned against the wall of the dimly lit alleyway, checking her watch for the umpteenth time that evening. "Bill, are you sure this is a good idea?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "I mean, breaking into a children's party to steal all the presents? Doesn't sound like our most brilliant plan yet." Bill, tall and lanky, with a mop of unruly brown hair, smiled widely at her. "Oh, come on, Molly! Where's your sense of adventure?" he replied, his eyes sparkling with mirth. "Besides, these presents are worth a fortune, and we could really use the cash right now." Molly sighed and rolled her eyes. She knew Bill's penchant for risky jobs, but this one really took the cake. She checked her weapon yet again, making sure the safety was on. "Okay, fine. Let's just get this over with," she said, mustering as much enthusiasm as she could. They made their way to the party venue, a bright and cheerful hall filled with the sound of laughter and music. Molly's heart pounded in her chest as they approached the front door, both of them wearing masks and matching black outfits to blend in with the darkness. Bill gave her a triumphant nod, and they pushed open the door. Inside, the scene was chaotic but delightful. Tables were covered in food, and balloons floated around the room like giant yellow and red clouds. Groups of children danced and played, chasing each other around the hall without a care in the world. Molly couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt as she eyed the piles of brightly wrapped presents under the tree. "Okay, let's do this," Bill whispered, gesturing to the presents. Molly followed him stealthily, carefully avoiding the notice of the partygoers. They moved like shadows, their masks concealing their identities as they reached the presents. "Wait," Molly said suddenly, staring at the pile of gifts. "What if someone needs one of these presents for their child? What if we ruin their Christmas?" Bill gave her a stern look. "Molly, we're thieves. We steal things for a living. If we don't do it, someone else will. Besides, it's not like we're stealing from Santa himself. It's just a bunch of stuff that rich parents bought for their entitled kids." Molly hesitated for a moment, then nodded. She knew Bill was right. This was just another job, and they needed the money. They started stuffing the presents into their bags, trying to move as quickly and quietly as possible. Just as they were about to leave, they heard a loud crash from across the room. Panic erupted among the children and adults alike as a giant tower of desserts came crashing down, sending sweet treats flying everywhere. Molly and Bill froze, their hearts racing as they tried to blend in with the chaos. After a few tense moments, the pandemonium died down, and everyone resumed their celebration. Molly and Bill exchanged a glance, both knowing they had narrowly escaped disaster. They quickly made their way outside, their bags filled with stolen presents. As they emerged into the darkness of the alleyway, Molly couldn't help but feel a mixture of relief and guilt. She knew they had just committed a crime, but she also knew they needed the money. As they made their way back to their hideout, Molly wondered if they had truly ruined someone's Christmas after all. Or if maybe, just maybe, they had given the parents an opportunity to rethink their priorities and focus on what really mattered. Only time would tell.
