Molly sat Indian-style on the cold concrete roof, her legs crossed and her notebook open on her lap. She’d always been the type for detailed planning, and she didn't let a little thing like the criminal enterprise she was about to embark upon deter her from using her trusty pen and ink. Bill perched beside her, leaning against the low edge of the roof and smoking a cigarette despite Molly's protests about breathing in second-hand smoke that would undoubtedly make its way into her lungs. He chuckled and took another drag. "Can't have fun without a little danger, Molly-girl." Molly flicked her notebook shut with exasperation. "Fine. But don't come running to me when you're gasping for air and coughing up phlegm." Bill scoffed, but the laughter lurking in his eyes betrayed how much he enjoyed their little tiffs. "Don't worry, sweetheart. I always land on my feet." He tapped his foot softly against the edge of the roof to the rhythm of his words. "Plus, you know I couldn’t live without you and your genius. So we're all set." Molly rolled her eyes, but a small smile lifted the corners of her mouth. Her partnership with Bill had gone through thick and thin, and they each knew that they couldn't go very far without the other. What made them such a unique team was that they balanced each other – Molly's meticulous detail-oriented nature and Bill’s devil-may-care charm providing a perfect blend of practicality and panache. They launched into a discussion about their upcoming target – a lavish children's party that promised an abundance of high-end presents for the spoiled-rotten brat receiving them. Bill's heart was set on the new Apple watch he'd clapped eyes on in a tech store window. "...which means we'll have less than two minutes to scope the place, disarm any potential security, and grab everything while avoiding detection," Molly rattled off, flipping open her notebook again. "Balloons will be our ticket in and out. Children are notorious for making a mess of them, providing ample cover for our entrances and exits." She jotted down a few more calculations, while Bill leaned in closer with an expectant grin. His eyes widened at a section she wrote down about making a distraction with confetti cannons. “Now that’s what I call style,” Bill crooned, flicking his cigarette toward the ground and crushing it beneath the worn heel of his boot. “So, you’re serious about this plan?” “Absolutely,” Molly replied, giving him a determined nod. “Provided everything goes as projected, we’ll be in, out, and long gone before that little monster even realises what’s happened.” She tapped her pen idly against her lips as if lost in thought. “If all else fails, we always have Bill’s ‘charm technique’ as a last resort.” She raised an eyebrow and gave a wicked grin. A grin that Bill mirrored, knowing full well exactly what ‘charm technique’ he was referring to. It involved feigning an injury or creating a spectacle that would undoubtedly draw the attention of everyone around, leaving them free to swoop in and steal the show. It never failed to deliver results, although at the cost of a few dented egos and bruised PR. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows along the alleyway below. They needed to get moving. Molly stood up stiffly, brushing the dirt and grime from her pants while Bill ground out his cigarette in a nearby puddle. They moved silently down onto the roof next door, using Molle’s homemade gadgets to unlock the door of the party venue. They didn't have a moment to lose: their daring heist about to begin. They were Molly and Bill, the best of the best—and tonight, they would teach that brat a thing or two about being spoiled…and steal a few nice-to-haves while they were at it. After all, it would be a shame to let that Apple watch go to waste on someone who wouldn't properly appreciate it.
