"Alright, Bill. You know the plan," Molly said, tugging at her black wig. "We'll hit the party just after they finish serving cake. The parents will be too busy chatting to notice us snatching the presents." Bill gave her a sidelong glance, his own wig wobbling slightly. "Arming us with party hats and noisemakers wasn't exactly your brightest idea, Molly." Molly frowned. "You're one to talk, wearing a top hat like a stage magician. We need to blend in." "Blending in is exactly what we're not doing," Bill retorted, adjusting his coat. "We look like the grandparents from hell." Molly snickered. "Oh, shut it. You look less ridiculous than me." Bill smirked. "That's not saying much." At the edge of the party, they watched as children shrieked with delight, their parents belting out dreadful renditions of 'Happy Birthday.' Molly honed in on the treasure trove of gifts beside the eager birthday boy. "Two minutes, Bill. We can do this." Bill nodded, his eyes fixed on a shiny, untangled mass of curly hair. "After you, partner." Molly hesitated, then waded into the fray. Bill trailed behind, his bulky nose a beacon of awkwardness. As they knelt beside the present pile, a wiggly preschooler clambered onto Molly's lap. "Can I have your balloon?" he demanded, tugging at her hat. Molly's lips twitched. "Not right now, sweetie. We're... um, looking for something else." The boy's eyes widened, and he tugged on her arm. "Can we find it? I likes adventure!" Bill groaned, rolling his eyes skyward. Molly suppressed a smile. "Another time, buddy." With a shared nod, the duo snatched the presents and slipped out the door, the sound of laughter and 'Everybody's Doing It' fading into the twilight. Molly wiped at her flushed face. "Well, that was... exhilarating." Bill snorted. "Not quite the tutelage of Capone, was it?" Molly laughed. "No, but it'll do.
