Molly adjusted her sequined headband, the plastic digging into her temples. "Are you sure we have to do this? It feels wrong, even for us." Bill, perched on a picnic table in the park across from the birthday party, barely looked up from the walkie-talkie crackling in his hand. " 'Operation Sugar Rush' is a go. Lenny's in position." "But they're just kids, Bill. Little kids with bouncy castles and those mini hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls—" "Pigs in a Blanket," Bill corrected, his eyes still glued to the party. "And stop calling them kids, it's bad for business. They're 'marks'. Little, sticky-fingered marks with terrible taste in toys." Through the park's chatter and laughter, a high-pitched voice shrieked through the walkie-talkie, "Target in sight! I repeat, giant singing giraffe acquired!" Molly shuddered. "See? Even the toys are terrifying." Bill shoved the walkie-talkie into his pocket. "Look, we've been over this. This party's for the mayor's kid. Rich kid parties? They equal big hauls. We're talking designer clothes, diamond-encrusted teething rings-" "Okay, first of all, babies don't wear diamonds," Molly interrupted, "Second, have you considered therapy? Maybe anger management? This whole 'stealing from children' thing seems unhealthy." Bill rolled his eyes. "It's called diversifying our portfolio! Besides, think of it as a public service. We're teaching these spoiled brats a valuable lesson about the impermanence of material possessions." Molly snorted. "Yeah, that's what they'll be thinking when they're sobbing over their stolen limited-edition action figures." Bill grabbed a nearby red wagon piled high with balloons, the ones shaped like cartoon dogs. "Less talk, more action. You distract the clown, I’ll grab the loot. And try to look less suspicious." Molly raised an eyebrow. "Suspicious how?" Bill gestured to her outfit, a chaotic explosion of neon colours, mismatched patterns, and an oversized propeller hat. "You look like a rainbow threw up." Molly straightened her hat with a flourish. "It's called making a statement. Besides," she winked, "what's a children's party without a little bit of crazy?"
