Molly peered through the window of the suburban home, her breath fogging up the glass. Inside, a swirl of vibrant decorations and balloons danced in her vision. She adjusted the black beanie atop her head and whispered, "We hit the jackpot, Bill. Look at those presents!" Bill, crouched beside her, swiped at a stray leaf on his pants. "Think they’ve got anything good in there?" he asked, a glint of mischief in his eyes. "Oh, definitely," Molly answered, rubbing her hands together. "These kids' parties are goldmines. Parents spend a fortune on gifts." Bill leaned closer, scanning the scene with eagle-eyed precision. "I see the cake, I see the clown. But we’ve got to move fast. The parents might get suspicious if the clown starts helping himself to the gifts." Molly stifled a laugh, imagining Bill in a clown suit. "No clown suits, Bill. We blend in, grab the loot, and slip out." Bill nodded, adjusting his mask. "Got it. How do we blend in? We’re not exactly parent material." "Simple," Molly said, a smirk playing on her lips. "Party crashers. We’re friends of friends. They’ll be too busy managing the chaos to question us." Bill raised an eyebrow. "And if they do?" "We charm them," Molly shrugged, as if it was the most obvious answer. "Kids' parties are the least guarded. All the adults are half-dead with exhaustion." "Right," Bill said, nodding. "Chaos is our cover." Molly slid down from the window and straightened her jacket. "We make our move when they’re lighting the birthday candles. Everyone's eyes will be on the cake." Bill ran a hand through his hair. "All right, how do we carry everything out? Some of those presents look pretty bulky." Molly glanced at the back of her car, parked discreetly down the block. “We’ve got Mary Poppins' bags in there, remember? Bottomless. We can stuff everything in.” "Ah," Bill grinned. "You think of everything." With a final nod to each other, they crept around to the back gate and slipped into the yard. The laughter and shrieks of children filled the air, masking their footsteps. Molly crouched behind a bush, keeping her eyes on the sliding glass door. “When the candles are lit, that’s our cue,” she murmured. Bill adjusted his mask again. "Got it. Ready when you are." The moment came quickly. The living room lights dimmed, the chorus of “Happy Birthday” rising in joyful chaos. "Now," Molly whispered. She bolted forward with Bill at her heels, slipping through the sliding door and into the fray. They moved like shadows, their eyes on the pile of presents as they edged closer.
