Molly and Bill crouched behind the tall hedge that bordered Timmy Jenkins' backyard. From their vantage point, they could see colorful streamers and balloons tied to the trees, along with a sizeable pile of wrapped presents near the bouncy castle. The sounds of children’s laughter and playful screams mixed with upbeat music filled the air. Molly adjusted her black beanie, eyes narrowing as she surveyed the scene. "Alright, focus. First, we need to blend in. Did you bring the disguises?" Bill chortled, pulling out two oversized T-shirts adorned with cartoon characters. “Of course. Look, I got us these.” He handed one with a grinning dinosaur on it to Molly. She stared at him, wide-eyed. "Seriously, Bill? Where on earth did you get these?" "Discount rack at the big box store. They were a steal," he said, smirking at his own joke. "Now put it on." Molly rolled her eyes but slipped the T-shirt over her black outfit. “Fine. But it’s your fault if I get laughed at by a bunch of six-year-olds.” Bill, now wearing his shirt with a giant rainbow unicorn, gave her a lopsided grin. “Hey, better than getting caught, right?” “Alright, let’s do this,” Molly said, trying to suppress her amusement as Bill adjusted his unicorn horn. “We mingle, grab the loot, and split. Easy.” They strolled into the yard, attempting to blend in with the chaos of the children's party. Bill made a beeline for the refreshment table, where a cluster of kids was clamoring for cupcakes. Molly scanned the area for parents, spotting most of them chatting in clusters or chasing after their children. “Cover me while I sneak over to the presents," she whispered to Bill. “Roger that,” he muttered through a mouthful of cupcake. He wiped off crumbs and sidled up to the nearest group of kids. “Hey, who wants to see me juggle?” Molly took advantage of the distraction, stealthily inching toward the pile of presents. She was nearly there when a tiny girl in a pink tutu blocked her path. “Who are you?” the girl demanded, hands on her hips. Molly plastered on a wide grin. “Oh, I’m just… Molly the Magnificent! Here to perform amazing tricks!” The girl’s eyes widened. “Can you do magic?” Thinking quickly, Molly pulled out a coin from her pocket and did a sleight-of-hand trick. The girl squealed in delight and ran off to tell her friends. Molly exhaled in relief and reached for the nearest package. Meanwhile, Bill continued his juggling act, tossing three tennis balls he’d found by the side of the house. “Look at me, kids! I'm a regular circus star!” A boy tugged on his sleeve. “Can you do that with more balls?” Bill’s eyes darted nervously to the presents. “Uh, maybe later, kid. I need a quick drink first.” He made his way toward Molly, who had several brightly wrapped gifts hidden under her oversized shirt. “Hurry up,” he hissed. “I think the entertainment's getting wise.” Molly nodded, glancing around. “Just a few more and we’re outta here.” Suddenly, a whistle blew, and both thieves froze. Timmy’s dad stepped forward, announcing it was time for the piñata. Kids charged toward the hanging papier-mâché creation, momentarily diverting all attention. “Now’s our chance,” Molly whispered, clutching the stolen presents tightly. They slunk to the back entrance, glancing over their shoulders to ensure they weren’t followed. Once safely beyond the hedges, Bill let out a sigh of relief. “Mission accomplished,” he chuckled, admiring their colorful bounty. Molly let out a laugh, shaking her head. “Next time, let’s steal something easier. Like candy from a baby.”
