Molly adjusted the party hat on her head, a bright pink feather bobbing with the motion. "I still don't get why we're doing this, Bill. I mean, stealing presents from kids? It's low, even for us." Bill, resplendent in a fluffy yellow bow tie, shrugged. "Hey, someone's got to keep the price of toy trains down. Besides, these rich kids won't even notice they're missing. They'll just get more." Molly snorted. "You're not exactly overflowing with the milk of human kindness, are you?" "Hey, I'm a thief. Not a philanthropist," Bill said, inspecting his fingernails. "Fair point." Molly consulted the schematic of the party venue, a sprawling McMansion in the 'burbs. "Okay, so we've got multiple entry points, but I'm thinking we go in through the ball pit. Easiest access to the present pile." Bill's eyes lit up. "And the added bonus of potentially escaping via giant inflatable slide." Molly dryly added, "Because nothing says 'professional thief' like careening out of a children's party on a sea of colorful plastic balls." "Hey, it's a viable exit strategy," Bill said, offended. Molly sighed. "Moving on. We need to blend in. What's the birthday kid's name again?" "Timmy. And don't even get me started on the possibilities for embarrassing party games. Pin the tail on the donkey is going to be a real challenge with this getup on." Molly shot him a look. "Focus, Bill. We're in, we grab the presents, we're out. No time for Trust Falls or Musical Chairs." As they finalized their plan, a loud, off-key rendition of "Happy Birthday" drifted from the backyard. Molly winced. "That's our cue. Time to crash the party." Bill clapped her on the back, nearly sending her feathered hat askew. "Let's go steal some joy from some tiny, entitled hearts!" Molly rolled her eyes. "You're a monster." The unlikely duo sauntered into the party, Molly carrying a plate of suspiciously store-bought cupcakes and Bill sporting a 'World's Okayest Uncle' t-shirt. They made a beeline for the present pile, a glittering mountain of colorfully wrapped boxes and bows. As they began to surreptitiously load the loot into their bags, Molly murmured, "You know, Bill, sometimes I worry about the company I keep." Bill, furtively cramming a Lego set into his satchel, whispered back, "That's what makes our partnership so beautiful, Molly. We're two wrongs that make a very, very wrong right." Their clandestine present-gathering operation was interrupted by a shrill cry of "Pin the tail on the donkey!" from the party hostess. Molly and Bill exchanged a look,(bit) and with a shared groan, reluctantly shed their bags and joined in the fray. After all, a good thief always blends in. Even if it kills them.
