Molly peered over her oversized sunglasses, scanning the colorful carnival unfolding in the park below. Balloons danced in the breeze, entangling themselves with laughter and the distant tune of a merry-go-round. "Look at that," she whispered to Bill, who was busy unraveling a map with all the pomp of a sea captain in uncharted waters. "It’s a kiddie fest out there." Bill grunted, squinting at the paper labyrinth in his hands. "Yeah, and behind enemy lines is where the treasure lies. Operation Piñata could be our biggest score yet." Molly snorted. "Operation Piñata? We’re swiping gift-wrapped goodies, not candy, Captain Hook." "Details, details," Bill waved her off, finally flattening the map against the roof of their nondescript minivan. "Here's the game plan: you charm the soccer moms. I’ll handle the magician." "That clown? You sure you don’t want to switch?" Molly mock shivered. "I’ve got a bad record with magicians. Remember Vegas?" Bill chuckled. "Who could forget? You tried to steal a rabbit out of that poor guy's hat." "It bit me!" Molly protested. She turned her attention back to the map. "What’s our entry point then? I’m not keen on dropping in like Mary Poppins." Bill pointed to a small X marked at the back of the park where the bushes grew thick. "Here. There’s a gap by the hedge maze. We go in during the magic show when all the kiddos are distracted." "And the presents?" "In the gazebo, nestled like baby birds." Bill’s eyes glittered with mischief. "Ready to fly the coop." Molly laughed, pulling on a sweatshirt with a unicorn emblazoned boldly across the front — her disguise as a hip, irony-loving millennial mom. "I still can’t believe parents lavish this much on a birthday party." "Neither can their bank accounts, I'm sure." Bill adjusted his tool belt beneath a similar hoodie, except his featured a rainbow and two cats high-fiving. Molly adjusted her camera sunglasses. "These still work? Last time I nearly walked into a swimming pool." "Charged and operational," Bill assured, tapping the side of his own pair. "Ready to film our grand escape?" "Let’s make it a blockbuster." Molly grinned, locking the van. They slipped through the crowd like two more over-involved parents. Molly complimented a woman on her elaborate homemade cupcakes while Bill slid into a group of fathers debating the merits of superhero movies. As the magician pulled a seemingly endless scarf from his sleeve, Molly sauntered towards the gaze Salonbo. "Bill, you're up." "On it," Bill’s voice crackled through the disguised earpiece. Molly watched him edge closer to the stage, tossing a smoke bomb cleverly disguised as a magic stone. Confusion reigned as clouds billowed. Children cheered, mistaking it for part of the show. Molly seized the moment, ducking into the gazebo. She emerged moments later, a bag of beautifully wrapped presents slung over each shoulder. "Exit stage left," she whispered into the mic, darting for the hedge gap. Bill was already there, his own loot swinging from his grasp. They jumped into the van, hearts racing.
