Molly and Bill sat in their beat-up van, parked a block away from the children's party they were about to rob. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" Bill asked, peering through the windshield at the bouncy castle and balloon animals visible through the gated yard. Molly rolled her eyes. "Of course it's a good idea. The parents are all too busy schmoozing each other to notice a couple of thieves scooping up their kids' presents." "But what if one of the kids sees us?" Bill asked, his voice betraying a hint of panic. "Then we'll just have to be extra sneaky, won't we?" Molly replied with a smirk. "Now come on, let's get this show on the road." She started the van and slowly drove towards the party, careful to avoid drawing attention to themselves. As they approached the gate, Molly rolled down her window and flashed a fake smile at the security guard. "Hi there," she said, her voice dripping with faux sweetness. "We're here for the birthday party. We were invited by the parents." The guard, a bored-looking teenager, barely glanced at them before waving them through. "Have fun," he said, barely masking his disinterest. Molly grinned triumphantly as she drove into the yard. "See? Piece of cake. Now let's get to work." They parked the van and quickly made their way towards the presents, which were piled high on a table near the bouncy castle. Molly grabbed as many as she could, stuffing them into a large duffel bag while Bill kept an eye out for any potential witnesses. "Hurry up," he hissed, glancing nervously over his shoulder. "I don't like this. We shouldn't be doing this." Molly dismissed his concerns with a wave of her hand. "Don't be such a worrywart. We're almost done. Just a few more presents and we're out of here." But as she reached for the last present on the table, a little girl dressed in a bright pink party dress ran up to them, her eyes wide with excitement. "Are those for me?" she asked, pointing at the pile of presents. Molly hesitated, torn between her desire to steal the presents and her sudden pang of guilt at the sight of the innocent child. "Err, well, uh..." she stammered, unsure of what to say. Bill, however, was made of sterner stuff. "Sorry, kid," he said, his tone much harsher than he intended. "These presents aren't for you. They're...umm...they're for someone else." The little girl's face fell, and Molly's heart melted. "I'm sorry," she said, kneeling down to the girl's level. "We made a mistake. These presents are for you. Happy birthday." She handed the girl the duffel bag, and the girl's eyes lit up with delight as she hugged it to her chest. "Thank you!" she exclaimed, before skipping back to the bouncy castle, her party hat bobbing up and down as she went. Molly and Bill watched her go, both feeling a mix of emotions. "Well, that didn't go as planned," Bill said, his voice tinged with confusion. Molly shrugged. "Sometimes things don't go according to plan. But that doesn't mean we can't make the best of it." She smiled at Bill, and he couldn't help but smile back. "Come on, let's get out of here," she said, and they made their way back to the van, their heads hung low in shame. As they drove away, Bill couldn't help but feel a strange sense of satisfaction. Sure, they hadn't succeeded in their heist, but they had made a little girl's birthday just a little bit brighter. And sometimes, that was all that mattered.
