Molly peered through the crack in the fence, eyes widening at the colorful chaos beyond. "What a scene, Bill. I've never seen so many streamers and balloons in one place. You'd think it was a royal birthday or something." Bill snorted, adjusting his cap. "Keep your eyes on the prize, Molly. The presents are inside that house. You remember the drill?" Molly tilted her head, winking. "Of course, I do. Distract and snatch. But how exactly are we going to distract a room full of sugar-high children?" Bill reached into his bag, pulling out a pair of clown noses. "With these babies. We'll be the life of the party." Molly groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Really, Bill? Clowns?" "What? Kids love clowns!" Bill shrugged, snapping on his red nose. "Now come on, time's a-wasting." They slipped through the gate and into the throng of squealing children, blending in as best they could amid the chaos. Molly tugged at her ridiculous wig, eyeing the hefty pile of presents in the corner. "Bill, I think we should strike sooner rather than later. They've got a magician coming soon. Once he starts pulling rabbits out of hats, our cover will be blown." Bill shook his head, thick white makeup cracking around his eyes. "Nah, that's our cue. The magician's the distraction. By the time he's done dazzling them, most of the little rugrats will be mesmerized. We swoop in, grab the loot, and bam! We're outta here." Molly looked skeptical. "Works in theory, but have you ever tried to steal from a bunch of five-year-olds? They can get pretty grabby." "They'll be so busy staring at the magician, they won't even notice us." Bill nudged her. "Just trust me." Before Molly could protest any further, music blared through the speakers, and a man in a top hat appeared in the center of the room. "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! Presenting the Great Alfonso, master of illusions!" Children erupted into cheers as Molly and Bill slipped behind the gift table. Molly palmed a couple of gift tags, her heart racing as she scanned the labels. "No time to be picky, Bill. We need to grab the biggest and best." As the magician pulled off his first trick, Bill began stuffing presents into their sack. "This is too easy, Molly. They're all completely entranced." Molly peered over her shoulder, spotting a tiny girl in pigtails staring straight at her. "Bill, hurry up! We've got company!" Bill slung the bulging sack over his shoulder and gestured towards the door. "Time to make our exit. Let's hope these clown costumes aren't a dead giveaway." They snuck through the crowd, swiping a few more gifts along the way. Just as they reached the door, a voice rang out above the crowd. "Hey, clown lady! You didn't tell us you could make presents disappear!" Molly froze, exchanging a panicked glance with Bill. "Oh, no. Run!" With a chorus of squeals and footsteps close behind, they burst through the door and sprinted across the yard. Molly's colorful wig slipped askew, but she didn't dare stop to fix it. They dove through the gate just as the gaggle of children slammed into it, yelling and pounding their tiny fists. Bill panted, leaning against the fence. "That was insane. Never thought I'd be chased down by a mob of kids." Molly wiped the sweat from her brow, glancing back at the commotion. "Well, Bill, I guess we can cross 'children's birthday party' off our list of potential heist locations." "Agreed," Bill laughed, hefting the sack of stolen goods. "But at least we got some pretty impressive loot. Happy birthday to us, Molly." Together, they disappeared into the shadows, leaving behind a chaotic scene of balloons, streamers, and a very perplexed magician.
