Molly adjusted her mask, the unicorn horn slightly tilting to the side. “You sure this is a good idea, Bill?” Bill tightened his laces on his sneakers. “Relax, Molly. It’s a kid’s party. Who’s gonna suspect two adults in animal masks? Besides, kids’ parties are the best. Free cake.” Molly rolled her eyes. “Free cake isn’t the mission, Bill. We’re here for the presents. Speaking of which, any idea how many we’re dealing with?” Bill pulled out a crumpled map of the venue. “According to my source, there are ten presents. They’re all stashed in the corner by the clown.” Molly let out a long sigh. “The clown. Just great. I hate clowns.” Bill laughed, patting her on the back. “Don’t worry. We’ll be in and out before you can say ‘balloon animal.’ Piece of cake, literally.” Molly shook her head but smiled. “Alright, let’s get this over with. Remember, we have to be quick. We don’t want to traumatize these kids more than we have to.” They crept up to the entrance of the party, which was being held in a brightly decorated backyard. Balloons floated in the air, a banner read “Happy Birthday,” and kids were running around with party hats. Molly whispered, “Okay, so we just waltz in?” Bill nodded. “Waltz in, grab the loot, and waltz out.” Molly gave a nod and stepped out from behind the bushes. They approached the party, trying to blend in with the festive atmosphere. Molly’s unicorn horn caught the attention of a few kids. A little girl tugged at Molly’s mask. “You’re a unicorn!” Molly forced a smile. “Yep! Just here to, uh, spread some magic.” Bill waved at a group of boys. “Hey, kids! Who’s having a great time?” The kids cheered. Molly’s smile wavered as she noticed a mother eyeing them suspiciously. Molly leaned into Bill. “We need to move faster. That mom’s giving us the stink eye.” Bill nodded, casually strolling over to the gift table while he pretended to admire the decorations. Molly followed, keeping an eye on the mom. As Bill reached for the first present, Molly noticed a clown approaching. “Bill, clown at 3 o’clock.” Bill froze. “What do I do?” Molly glanced around, spotting a spare party hat on the ground. “Quick, distract him.” Bill grabbed the party hat and put it on his unicorn horn. He walked over to the clown. “Hey there, clown! Love your work. How do you make those balloon animals look so real?” The clown laughed, taking the bait. “It’s all in the twist, my friend. Want a demonstration?” Molly, seizing the opportunity, quickly grabbed the presents and stuffed them into a large bag she had hidden under her unicorn costume. As she was nearing the bottom of the pile, she heard a voice behind her. “Excuse me, what are you doing?” Molly turned around slowly, trying to maintain her composure. It was the suspicious mom. Molly gave her best innocent smile. “Oh, just, um, making sure these gifts are safe. For the kids, you know?” The mom frowned. “That’s my job, actually. I think it’s time for you to leave.” Molly nodded quickly. “Right, right. We were just leaving. Right, Bill?” Bill, still engaged with the clown, turned around with a start. “Oh, uh, yeah. We’re going.” They started to back away, clutching the bag of presents. The clown, now suspicious, began to follow them. Molly whispered to Bill, “Run!” They bolted towards the exit, the clown and the mom hot on their heels. Just as they reached the gate, Bill turned back. “Sorry about the presents! We’re just big kids at heart!” They dashed down the street, their mission accomplished, though their dignity slightly bruised.
