The bell above the door jingled as the door swung open, releasing the scent of freshly baked bread into the crisp morning air. A man in a well-worn coat entered, his footsteps echoing softly on the wooden floor. He made his way to the counter, where a woman with flour-dusted apron was arranging a tray of pastries. "Morning, Emma," he greeted her with a nod. "Morning, Jacob," she replied, her voice a warm melody. "You're here early today." Jacob looked around the empty bakery, his gaze lingering on the glass display filled with cakes and cookies. "Yeah, couldn't sleep. Figured I'd come by and see if you had any of those blueberry muffins left." Emma smiled, placing the tray of pastries on the counter. "Just for you," she said, lifting the lid to reveal the last two muffins. "Fresh out of the oven this morning." Jacob's eyes lit up. "Perfect," he said, pulling out a few bills from his pocket. "How's business?" "Usual," Emma replied, taking the money and handing him his change. "Slow start, but it picks up around lunchtime." Jacob nodded, his eyes still on the muffins. "Mind if I take these to go?" Emma shook her head. "Not at all. Take care, Jacob." "You too, Emma," he said, tucking the muffins into his coat pocket. "See you tomorrow."
