Molly and Bill sat hunched over a rickety table in the back corner of the dingy dive bar, their heads nearly touching as they pored over a crudely drawn map. "Okay, so the party's in the park by the lake, right?" Molly asked, tapping the map with a bright pink fingernail. Bill nodded, slurping noisily from his beer. "Yep. Tons of rich kiddos, tons of expensive presents. It's gonna be like taking candy from a baby." Molly snorted. "More like taking presents from bratty kids who don't appreciate 'em anyway. I bet most of these spoiled little monsters already have way more toys than they know what to do with." "A regular Toys "R" Us heist, eh?" Bill quipped with a smirk. "Exactly!" Molly replied with a devious grin. "And we'll be the modern day Santa Clauses, redistributing all those unused playthings to the less fortunate." "The less fortunate being us, of course," Bill clarified, raising an eyebrow. "But of course," Molly agreed. "After all, we're just a couple of Robin Hoods in disguise, aren't we?" "In tights and everything," Bill deadpanned. "Anyway, back to business. I'm thinking we hit the party right in the middle of the magic show." Molly's eyes lit up. "Ooh, clever! All those screaming kids will be totally distracted by the bunny being pulled out of the hat. They'll never even notice us sneaking off with the gift table." "And if any of the parents try to stop us," Bill continued, "we'll just give 'em the old razzle-dazzle. Flash a little leg, bat the eyes, turn on the charms. They'll be putty in our hands." Molly scoffed. "Oh, I'm sure you batting your beady little eyes will have them eating right out of your palm. More like they'll be calling the cops on your scrawny behind." "Hey, I'll have you know I've been told I have very alluring peepers," Bill protested, looking mock-offended. "Couldn't get enough of 'em in prison, I tell ya." Molly rolled her eyes so hard she nearly sprained something. "Ugh, please, spare me the sordid details of your revolting prison romances. I'm trying to plan a heist here." "Fine, fine," Bill grumbled. "I was just trying to add a little levity to the situation." "Well, save the levity for after we've fenced all the goods and are sipping daiquiris on the beach, huh?" Molly shot back. "Until then, I need you focused and ready to go at a moment's notice. Capiche?" "Capiche," Bill agreed. "I'll be focused like a laser. A laser pointer, even." "Ugh," Molly groaned, burying her face in her hands. "You are impossible sometimes, you know that?" "It's part of my charm," Bill replied cheerfully, polishing off the last of his beer. "Now, let me just go hit the little thieves' room and we can run through this plan one more time before showtime." "Make it snappy, Romeo," Molly called after him as he sauntered away. "And stop batting your eyes at every floozy you pass on the way!" Bill just shot her a wink over his shoulder, his cocky grin perfectly illustrating why Molly was convinced he was going to be the death of her someday. But until then, she figured, she might as well enjoy the wild ride of being his partner in crime. After all, it wasn't every day you got to play gracious gift-bearing elf to a bunch of unsuspecting, party-hatted kiddos.
