The two thieves, Molly and Bill, sat huddled in the dimly lit backseat of their non-descript beige sedan, parked a block away from the cul-de-sac where the children's party was in full swing. Molly twirled a strand of her red hair around her finger as she studied the plans she'd drawn up earlier. "It's gonna be a cakewalk," Molly said, flashing her perfect grin at Bill. "At exactly half-past, when the Professor comes in with the piñata, I'll slip in the back door." Bill, a lanky man with a wry smile, checked his watch for the umpteenth time. "You sure he won't skip the piñata?" "No, remember? Mrs. Evergreen mentioned it over the phone. His kid won't let him." "You heard the whole conversation or are you guessing?" Bill asked, still skeptical. "Like I'd pull that crap," Molly shot back. "I bugged the landline, okay?" Bill sighed. "And you tapped into the credit card chip too, I see." "Hey, let's say I prevented you from buying any cheese-covered pizzas at least." "The sacrifices you make for our partnership," Bill joked. "Shh!" Molly pressed her finger to her lips, peering out the window as the Evergreen child flung open the front door, her mop of purple pigtails bobbing. "Now pay attention, Bill." Molly talked low as the child began to swiggle and hop her way towards a kid in a pink party hat. "When the que, Jesse, knocks the candy out, we pop in. They're all distracted, everyone 'oohs and amazing' before they dive for the candy." "Yep, I got this part," Bill grinned. They'd rehearsed so much his role he could do it in his sleep. "Good, 'cause I'll need you by the gift table--can't knock over an unattended pile or the kid's gonna figure out the goodies are missing way too fast. Run them to the back." "But we need to move fast on the goods," Molly lightly tapped her partner on the shoulder. "I'll hunt for cash, we both hit the door, and, well, then run." "Fun!" Bill exclaimed, his long legs twisting as he crab-crawled inside the small car. "For us I hope," Molly breathed as she checked the Professor's silver watch they'd stolen on their last score. "Piñata time. I'm in, slick." Molly bent to slide between the front and back seats into the trunk of the car. "Mol-ly..." Bill sang out as she shifted on her stomach, still reaching for something. "Bill," she growled from the back of the car. "First off, don't call me that, and second, knock it off." "Alright, alright, I knocked it." "Great." Molly slid into the darker shadows and threw her legs over. "Keep my zipline in the Honda Civic next to us, we don't wanna go for a cozy drive after robbing a kid."
