The moonlight cast an eerie glow through the warehouse windows as Molly and Bill huddled around the blueprint laid out on the rusted metal workbench. Molly traced her finger along the building's layout, her lips pursed in concentration. "Okay, so the kids' party is in the big hall on the second floor. The gifts will be in the corner, under the 'Birthday Boy' banner." Bill scratched his stubble, his eyes pinned on the plan. "What about security?" "Not much to speak of," Molly answered with a dismissive wave of her hand. "It's a bunch of well-behaved kids, their cookie-baking parents, and a few bouncy castles. Either of us could eat this place for breakfast and ask for seconds." Bill whipped a grin wide enough to split his face in half. "Sounds like a cakewalk, almost... too easy. What's the real score?" Molly's lips curved into a smirk. "This isn't any ordinary kid's party. The birthday boy's dad is a tech mogul. We're talking iPad Pros, the latest PS5s, maybe even a few Android tablet or two." She patted the spot on the map marked 'Gift Corner.' "We break in, snatch the loot, and disappear before the birthday cake goes flat." "Nice!" Bill high-fived his partner, the sound echoing off the cold concrete. "But what's our 'Zelig Knocker'?" Every heist had a Zelig Knocker, that little wrinkle Even the best planners couldn't anticipate. Molly tapped the bridge of her nose with an index finger. "The one thing that'd knock this heist into oblivion? Forget the fun and run." Bill scrunched up his face. "What do you mean? This is a kid's party. There's fun from ass to elbow." "Not for us," Molly maintained, unimpressed. "We've got one job, which is to get in, grab the loot, and bounce. No jammy legs breaking, no horseplay with Kammy Hayes the bouncing clown, no wrestling matching socks on little Timmy's head. I don't want to see either of us picking fights 'cuz Susan ate the last of the pink frosted gravity, either." "Oh." Bill's shoulders drooped, oh so disappointed. "Come on, give me a break. A grown man can't possibly stay out of the bounce house!" "You can and you will!" Molly pointed her pen at him like a finger-wand, gray eyes glinting with mischief. "Unless you want to spend the night in lockup, trading stories 'bout the Big Score You Missed." Bill grimaced like he sucked lemons, but nodded glumly. "Okay, Molly. We go in pockets-out like the pros, see not a single trampoline, and pile out without committing any crime involving the bouncy house." "That's my partner talking," she said, centering the pen on the maternity blue whale wearing a gold sash on the map. The sash read 'Happy Birthday, Ethan!' in obnoxiously cursive. "You ready for the score of a lifetime?" "Kinker, you know it!" Bill turned up his arms and Molly shuffled in, laughing until her laughter trilled to a wicked whistle. The night leaned closer to the warehouse, the heist at hand. Whaddaya know. Just like Nickoncé said, they were ready for battle... and some dancing.
