Molly drummed her fingers against the table, eyeing Bill's bent posture and half-empty whiskey glass. "So you're telling me we're gonna heist a damn children's party?" Bill swirled the amber liquid in his glass before heaving a sigh. "Look, I know it sounds cuckoo, but those parents are all idiots. The place must be crawling with presents by now, and they're just sitting there minding their own business." Molly rolled her eyes. "Children's parties aren't exactly a goldmine, Bill. The best we're gonna find are probably some chintzy toys and maybe a couple books." Bill scoffed. "What's wrong with toys? I'm sick of stealing designer suits and cash. It's about time we got back to the basics." "Basics my ass. If you want to return to our thief roots, at least try something with more ROI. Like, I dunno... an office wedding party." Bill slumped back in his chair. "That's because stealing party favors at an office wedding is way more predictable, and it's a cliché." He took a long sip of his drink. "Besides, how often are we going to get this opportunity? A bunch of kids' presents lying in the open without their dumb parents clueing in?" Molly shrugged. "I don't know, Bill. You're the one who spilled at dinner that the tent's gonna be pitched in the field. You do know that's when people are shooting off fireworks, right?" Bill grinned. "See? It'll be perfect. Everyone'll be distracted by the booms and lights, and they won't even notice us streaking through with twenty sacks of birthday loot." Molly shook her head. "And even if we do get their fancy presents, how the hell are we gonna fence kids shit?" Bill scratched his chin. "Hmm. I got it. We turn it into a fundraiser. Sell those random games and robots to some dozen charity event. Make ourselves a little angel money." Molly raised an eyebrow. "Okay, that's actually brilliant. And what about all those little toys? I mean, some toddler's parents probably paid a fortune for that unicorn nightlight." Bill nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, we can put those in our own crib. Make their hot little bodies miss up our motherly love." Molly sighed. "You know, Bill, we've been together long enough for me to know our dynamic. You're the magical Robin Hood of kiddie presents, and I'm the straight man here." Bill winked. "And you love it." Molly shook her head. "I've gone from a folk hero, Miss Liberty standing independently, to your lowly Tinkerbell all in the span of a few words." She took a sip of her scotch. "But I gotta admit, if anyone's going to hit a group of parents' subconscious, it's you." Bill grinned. "Aye, I know. It's a done deal. We set up next Tuesday night..." Molly raised a brow. "And if this blows up in our face--" Bill cut her off. "There'll be no blow. I'm telling you, it'll be operatic." Molly took a deep breath. "All right Bill, you better be right about this." Bill clinked his glass with hers. "To our sins, darling." Molly grinned. "To our sins." With raised glasses, they toasted bubbles in the amber liquid. Bill's face lit up as he raised his eyebrows. "How about we round off twenty with a dozen goody bags?" Molly laced her fingers with his. "Afterwards, Bill. Our risks today will be amply repayed." The two criminals dissipated grins in their smirks, contemplating the future phantasmagoric horde.
