Behind the counter, Emily carefully arranged an assortment of colorful cupcakes on a tiered stand. "Those look delightful, as always," a familiar voice called out. Emily glanced up to see her best friend, Sarah, sauntering in wearing her signature red coat. "Thank you! I just finished them. You're just in time - they're still warm." Sarah leaned against the counter, eyeing the tempting treats. "Mmm, I can't decide between the chocolate and vanilla ones. I think I'll have to get both." Sarah nodded, reaching for her purse. "I heard they're from the city. Rumor is, he's some kind of bigshot businessman. I'm sure they'll fit right in around here." Emily snorted. "You know as well as I do that nobody who moves to this town is ever what they seem. I give them a month before something scandalous comes to light." Sarah chuckled. "Well, if anyone can dig up the dirt, it'll be you. But maybe this time they'll be the exception to the rule." She paid and headed for the door, cupcakes in hand. "I'll see you later, Em. Enjoy the rest of your day!" The bell above the bakery door jingled as Sarah left. Emily returned to work, her mind already churning with possibilities about the new neighbors.
