Lila hurried out from the kitchen, wiping her flour-dusted hands on her apron. "Oh, hi there! Welcome to Sweet Serendipity. What can I get for you?" A tall man with dark hair and a well-tailored suit stood at the counter, surveying the colorful display case. "I'll have a large coffee and one of those blueberry muffins, please." Lila smiled brightly as she rang up the order. "Coming right up! I baked those muffins myself this morning. I think you'll really enjoy them." She poured a steaming cup of coffee and carefully placed a muffin on a plate. As she slid them across the counter, the man's eyes widened in surprise. "You're Lila Hartley, aren't you? I've read your mysteries. They're fantastic!" Lila blushed at the compliment. "Why, thank you! I had no idea I had such a distinguished customer." The man chuckled as he took a sip of coffee. "Distinguished? I prefer the term nosy. I'm Detective Jameson with the state police. We met briefly at the murder scene last week, remember? You were the one who discovered the body." A chill ran down Lila's spine at the memory. "Of course. Such a tragedy. Do the police have any leads yet?" "Not yet," Jameson replied, his brow furrowed. "But I have a feeling this case will take some digging. Maybe even the kind of digging a certain amateur sleuth might enjoy?" Lila met his gaze, a slow smile spreading across her face. "Maybe you're right, Detective. Maybe we should talk more about this over coffee...and muffins."
