Molly tossed the binoculars onto the couch, a smirk spreading across her face. "They're loading in the presents now." Bill set down the coffee cup, the edge of his own smile creeping up. "How many?" "Looks like around fifty. They've got some big ones too. Could be a new bike or a dollhouse in there." "Score. You think they're wrapping them on the spot?" Molly shrugged. "Why else would they have a whole table set up with paper and bows?" "Because they're nice people?" Bill suggested. Molly snorted. "Nice people don't throw parties like this. They're showing off their kid's birthday gifts to the other parents. Bet you their kid is going to have a sugar coma by the end of the day." Bill chuckled. "You really hate rich people, don't you?" "I hate people who waste money on ridiculous parties for five-year-olds. I could think of a hundred better ways to spend five grand." "Like?" "Like buying a new couch. Or paying off my student loans. Or bribing a judge to forget about all those parking tickets." Bill laughed. "You're such a romantic, Molly." She shot him a withering look. "I'm a pragmatist. That party is a goldmine, and I'm going to get my hands on as much of it as I can." Bill leaned back in the chair, propping his feet on the coffee table. "So how do you want to do this?" "I was thinking we could sneak in through the play structure. It's got a tunnel that leads right into the party area." "And what do we do once we're in there?" "Start grabbing presents and shoving them into our bags. We'll work fast, try to get in and out before they even notice anything's missing." "That's your plan?" Molly glared at him. "What do you want me to do? Call in a SWAT team to clear the area?" "Maybe just a little more finesse?" "Look, Bill, I'm not exactly swimming in connections who can get us kid party invites. We're going to have to do this the old-fashioned way." "Fine. What's the signal?" "If I shout 'Cake!' that means we need to get out, fast. Got it?" Bill raised an eyebrow. "Cake?" "Yeah, cake. It's a kids' party. If someone yells cake, everyone's going to rush towards it.
