"Are you kidding me?" Molly whispered harshly, peering through her binoculars at the bustling garden filled with giggling kids and harried adults. "A children's party? That's our target?" "You heard the boss," Bill muttered, unfolding the crinkled blueprint of the suburban house. "The client wants those presents, so we're here to get 'em." Molly rolled her eyes. "This is a new low for us, Bill. Stealing from kids? We're criminals, not monsters!" "Hey, a job's a job," Bill shrugged, scanning the blueprint. "Besides, do you really think those spoiled brats need more toys? We're just...redistributing the joy." "Oh, don't give me that Robin Hood nonsense!" Molly snapped, snatching the blueprint from him. "Look, the best entry point is through the kitchen. There's a window with a faulty latch. The presents are in the living room. In and out, five minutes max." Bill nodded, pulling on his latex gloves. "Fine, let's get this over with. I feel ridiculous enough as it is, skulking around a kid's birthday party." They slipped into the backyard unnoticed, blending into the shadows as a clown made balloon animals and a gaggle of sugar-fueled children cheered. Molly made quick work of the kitchen window latch, and they slid into the bustling house. The kitchen was a whirlwind of activity - parents clinking glasses and servers balancing trays of cake. Molly and Bill exchanged a glance, then darted to the living room, where the coveted presents lay. "Jackpot," Bill whispered, eyes gleaming at the sight of the brightly wrapped gifts. They started shoveling them into their bags when a tiny voice piped up behind them. "Hey! Those are mine!" Molly and Bill froze, turning to face the birthday boy, who couldn't have been older than seven. His face was smeared with icing, but his eyes blazed with righteous indignation. "We, uh...we're just, um, checking if they're, er, safe," Molly stammered. "Yeah, we're present checkers!" Bill chimed in, flashing a toothy grin. "Wouldn't want any dangerous toys now, would we?" The boy narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "I'm gonna tell my mommy." "No, no, no need for that," Molly said hastily, racking her brain for a solution. "Hey, how about...we give you one of these presents right now? A special early gift, just for you!" The boy considered this, then nodded solemnly. "Okay, but you have to wrap it again. I like unwrapping them." Molly and Bill exchanged a relieved look, then handed him the nearest present. As he scampered off, Molly shook her head. "We almost got ratted out by a seven-year-old. We really are scraping the barrel here." Bill chuckled. "Come on, let's finish up and get out of here. I need a stiff drink after this." With one last glance at the children's party, Molly and Bill slipped out the way they came, melting into the dusk with their bags of stolen presents.
