"This is the stupidest idea you've ever had, Bill," Molly whispered, peering over the fence at the chaos of children in the backyard. "You always say that, Molly," Bill grinned, "and yet here you are." "Yeah, well, rent's not gonna pay itself," Molly grumbled, "Remind me why we're stealing from kids again?" "Because their parents buy them expensive toys and don't keep track of them," Bill reasoned, "Plus, who's going to suspect thieves at a kid's birthday party?" Molly stared at him, "You know what? I don't want to know. Just tell me the plan." "Alright, here's the deal," Bill began, "You'll distract the adults with some sob story about a missing dog, while I sneak into the garage where they've hidden the presents." "A missing dog?" Molly raised an eyebrow, "Really?" "Hey, it works," Bill shrugged, "People love dogs. And while they're busy helping you, I'll grab the goods." "And if someone catches you?" Molly challenged. "They won't," Bill assured her, "Trust me, this is going to be a piece of cake." With a roll of her eyes, Molly heaved herself over the fence, muttering, "It better be a really good cake." Bill chuckled as he followed suit. They separated once inside the party; Molly headed towards the group of adults chatting near the barbecue, while Bill casually made his way towards the garage. "Excuse me," Molly said timidly, approaching the parents, "I'm sorry to bother you, but I've lost my dog, and I was wondering if anyone's seen him?" "Oh no!" one parent exclaimed, "Poor thing! What does he look like?" As Molly described an imaginary dog, she noticed Bill slipping into the garage unnoticed. She kept talking, watching the garage door anxiously. Moments later, Bill emerged, two large bags slung over his shoulders, grinning triumphantly. "Thank you all for your help," Molly said hurriedly, "I should probably keep looking." Before anyone could respond, Molly rushed out the gate, Bill right behind her. They didn't stop running until they were several blocks away. "See?" Bill panted, "Easy as pie." Molly shook her head, still catching her breath, "Next time, let's steal actual cake instead." Bill laughed, "Deal."
