"You want to rob a children's party?" Molly looked at Bill incredulously as she stirred her coffee. "The O'Malley kid's birthday party, to be precise," Bill said with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "That's crazy!" Molly snorted, trying hard not to spray her coffee. "Crazy like a fox!" Bill retorted. "Nobody's gonna suspect thieves at a kid's party. Plus, the presents are just sitting there, unattended, waiting to be swiped!" "You've lost it, Bill," Molly shook her head in disbelief. "What if someone catches us?" "We'll just act like we're part of the party," Bill replied, unfazed. Molly rolled her eyes. "Right, because two adults lurking around a kid's party won't look suspicious at all!" "I've got it all planned out," Bill insisted. "We'll dress up as a clown and a magician!" "Clown and magician, huh?" Molly's lips twitched in amusement. "Yep, I'll be the magician and you'll be the clown," Bill continued, oblivious to Molly's sarcasm. "Wait, why do I have to be the clown?" Molly demanded. "Because I'm the brains of this operation," Bill said matter-of-factly. "Fine, but I'm not wearing a red nose," Molly relented with a sigh. *** Dressed in their costumes, Molly and Bill arrived at the party venue, trying to blend in with the crowd of kids and parents. Molly's oversized shoes kept tripping her up, while Bill was having trouble keeping his top hat on his head. "Remember, we grab the presents and make a run for it," Bill whispered to Molly as they entered the party room. "How could I forget?" Molly muttered, her face hidden behind white face paint and a rainbow wig. As Bill distracted the guests with a magic trick, Molly inched towards the gift table, trying to maintain her balance in her clown shoes. "Hey, the clown's stealing the presents!" A kid shouted, pointing at Molly as she grabbed an armful of gifts. "Quick, let's make a run for it!" Molly yelled at Bill. With parents and kids hot on their heels, Molly and Bill sprinted towards their getaway car, colorful wigs and top hats flying in the wind. "This is the last time I let you come up with a plan," Molly panted as they peeled out of the parking lot, leaving behind a trail of confetti and streamers. "But admit it," Bill grinned, "it was kind of fun." "Yeah, yeah," Molly smirked, "just drive, Magic Man."
