"I can't believe we're doing this," Molly whispered, her eyes scanning the cheerful decorations adorning the walls of the party hall. "What's there to believe? It's just a simple grab and dash," Bill said, pretending to examine a colorful balloon. "A simple grab and dash? At a children's party?" Molly hissed. "We're hitting a new low, Bill." Bill shrugged. "Hey, a job's a job, Molly. Besides, we're just liberating the presents. It's not like we're stealing candy from babies." Molly rolled her eyes. "That's exactly what we're doing." Ignoring Molly's remark, Bill continued, "The plan is simple. We mingle with the crowd, wait for the present table to be unattended, then boom! We swoop in and grab as many gifts as we can carry." "This is ridiculous," Molly muttered, adjusting her brightly colored wig. "You're just grumpy because you have to wear that wig," Bill teased, a smirk on his face. Molly glared at him. "It's not just the wig, Bill. We're at a children's party, for crying out loud. There are kids here, innocent kids who are going to be disappointed when their presents go missing." "It's not our problem," Bill said callously. "Besides, these kids have rich parents. They can buy them new toys." "That's not the point," Molly insisted, her voice laced with guilt. Bill sighed. "Look, Molly, I know this isn't the most noble job we've ever done, but it pays the bills. And who knows, maybe the birthday girl is a brat, and this is some cosmic payback." "That's a stretch, Bill." A sudden commotion at the other end of the hall caught their attention. A clown had fallen face-first into a giant cake, sending a wave of laughter through the crowd. "It's showtime," Bill said with a grin, his gaze locked on the now-unattended present table. Molly hesitated, her eyes darting between Bill and the sea of laughing children. Finally, she let out a defeated sigh. "Fine, let's do this." As they weaved through the distracted guests, Bill whispered, "Remember, act casual." "I know, I know," Molly snapped quietly. "I'm not an amateur." Despite her irritation, Molly couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt as she watched the children's joyful faces, blissfully unaware of the impending theft. Finally, they reached the present table. Bill casually leaned against it, pretending to admire the festive wrapping paper. Molly stood beside him, her eyes scanning the room for any signs of suspicion. "Ready?" Bill asked, his hand discreetly reaching for a brightly wrapped gift. Molly nodded reluctantly. "Ready." With swift, practiced movements, they began stuffing gifts into their oversized coats, keeping their backs turned to the crowd. Their task was nearly complete when a small voice interrupted them. "What are you doing with those presents?" Molly and Bill froze, turning to face a tiny girl in a princess costume, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. "We're just... reorganizing them," Molly stammered, a bead of sweat forming on her forehead. The little girl scowled. "You're not supposed to touch them. They're for my friend." "It's just a prank," Bill chimed in, forcing a smile. "We'll put them back, promise." The girl studied them for a moment before nodding slowly. "Okay, but I'm watching you." As she skipped away, Molly let out a sigh of relief. "That was close." "Too close," Bill agreed, eyeing the presents in his coat. "We should wrap this up before we get caught." Nodding in agreement, Molly helped Bill stuff the last few gifts into their coats. Together, they slipped out of the party hall, the sound of laughter and music fading behind them. Once outside, Molly and Bill exchanged a knowing glance before disappearing into the bustling city, their coats bulging with stolen presents and their consciences heavy with guilt.
