In the dimly lit corner of their shabby apartment, Molly and Bill huddled around a worn table strewn with blueprints and a half-eaten sandwich. The party they were casing was a blur of pastel colors and balloons, but the presents were the real prize. Molly, her eyes scanning the map, tapped her pen on the page. "So, we've got the kid's room, the living room, and the kitchen. But the presents are in the living room." Bill adjusted his glasses, peeking over the top of them. "We'll have to be quick. Kids are unpredictable." "True, but they'll be distracted with cake and games." Molly grinned, her teeth flashlight-white in the gloom. "What about the parents?" Bill asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Molly waved a hand dismissively. "They'll be in the kitchen, helping with the cake. We can sneak in, grab the presents, and be out before they notice." Bill nodded, a slow smile spreading across his face. "And what about the police? We don't want a repeat of the last time." "Relax, Bill. This is a one-off. We'll leave the presents in a nice, neat pile in the park. No trouble." Bill rubbed his hands together, a gleam in his eye. "So, we're agreed? The kid's room for the distractions, living room for the presents, and out the back door." Molly stood, gathering up their map. "Agreed. But we'll need a change of clothes. Kids' parties are always full of glitter and rainbows, and we don't want to leave any evidence." Bill chuckled, looking down at his rumpled shirt. "No problem. I've got a few pieces that'll do the trick." As they gathered their things, Molly paused, looking back at their makeshift crime scene. "You know, Bill, we make quite the team." Bill smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "That we do, Molly. That we do." They slipped out into the night, their shadows merging with the darkness, ready to take on the world of a children's party.
