In the heart of the city, nestled between a rundown diner and a sprawling park, stood a grand old house. Tonight was the night of little Timmy's birthday party, and Molly and Bill hadn't slept since they heard about it. They were perched on the rooftop, a pair of ninjas in their own right, dressed in black from head to toe, equipped with a bag of tools and a bag of nerves. Molly, her eyes gleaming with excitement, turned to Bill. "Alright, Bill, we're in the clear. The coast is clear, just like we planned." Bill, his fingers tapping nervously on the silenced .22 he'd brought along, nodded. "I've never seen so many presents in one place. It's like a little stock market up there." Molly chuckled, "Well, we're not here to invest. We're here to... acquire." They climbed down the fire escape, their footsteps echoing softly on the metal. They moved through the backyard, their shadows dancing on the wall, until they reached the open window. Molly sneaked a peek inside. "There's Timmy, playing with his new toy car. And there's the presents, all nicely wrapped and stacked." Bill's eyes widened. "There are even some of those little robots that make jokes. I bet they're not worth much, but they're funny." Molly grinned. "Well, funny's not our priority. We're after the money, remember?" They slipped inside, their silhouettes blending with the darkness. Molly moved silently, her hand outstretched, touching the presents. "These are the best ones. They're all wrapped in gold paper." Bill nodded, his eyes scanning the room. "We should take the toys. They're easiest to sell." Molly shook her head, "No, Bill. We're not child thieves. We're just... selective." The front door creaked open, breaking the silence. A little girl, her eyes wide with curiosity and fear, stood in the doorway. "Who are you?" Molly froze, her heart pounding. She turned to Bill, her eyes wide. "We're... we're..." Bill stepped forward, a smile on his face. "We're the party poopers, honey. We're here to steal your presents." The little girl gasped, her eyes widening even more. "But... but you're not supposed to do that!" Molly nodded, her voice soft. "We know, little one. But we're not going to hurt anyone. Just a little... heist." The little girl laughed, her eyes sparkling. "You're silly! But you can't steal our presents. My daddy will catch you." Molly's eyes widened, a look of realization crossing her face. "He already has, hasn't he?" Bill chuckled, his voice low. "It's time to go, Molly." They turned and left, the little girl's laughter echoing behind them as they slipped out the window. They climbed back onto the rooftop, their hearts pounding, their spirits unbroken. "Well," Molly said, looking at the house, "that was... interesting." Bill grinned, "Yeah, but we made it out alive. And with a little extra cash in our pocket." They packed up their gear, ready to move on to their next job. As they slipped away into the night, Molly turned to Bill. "You know what? This was fun." Bill laughed, "Yeah, it was. But next time, let's not involve the kids." And with that, they disappeared into the city, their mission for the night accomplished. The laughter of little Timmy and his friends could be heard from the party, a sweet melody under the moonlit sky. And the thieves, Molly and Bill, left their mark, a memory of a night they'd never forget.
