Molly adjusted her black ski mask and glanced at Bill, who was busy examining a blueprint of the suburban home. "You sure this is the right place? Looks like a fortress." Bill chuckled, his eyes never leaving the paper. "Trust me, I've cased this joint for weeks. The parents are loaded, and they're throwing a bash for their kid's birthday. All the presents will be in one place." Molly rolled her eyes. "Great, so we're stealing from a bunch of six-year-olds. You sure we can't just knock over a bank instead?" "Come on, Molly. Where's your holiday spirit?" Bill grinned, folding up the blueprint. "Besides, the haul from this job will set us up for months. We just need to get in, grab the goods, and get out." "Sounds simple enough," Molly said, checking her lockpicks. "What's the plan?" Bill pointed to a window on the second floor. "That's the kid's bedroom. We'll go in through there, make our way downstairs, and snag the presents from under the tree. Then we rappel back out the window and make our escape." Molly raised an eyebrow. "Rappel? Since when do we rappel?" "Since I saw it in a movie and thought it looked cool," Bill replied with a shrug. "Besides, it'll be a good distraction. While everyone's focused on the strange man dangling from a window, you can grab the loot." Molly sighed. "Fine, but if this goes south, I'm blaming you." "Deal," Bill said, clapping her on the shoulder. "Now let's get moving. The party starts in an hour, and we need to be in position." They crept through the shadows, avoiding the streetlights as they made their way to the target house. Bill scaled the side of the building with ease, securing a rope to a sturdy-looking pipe. He tossed the other end down to Molly, who began her ascent. As she reached the window, Molly heard the sound of laughter and music drifting up from the party below. She pushed open the window and slipped inside, followed closely by Bill. The room was decorated with posters of cartoon characters and action figures. Molly couldn't help but smile at the innocence of it all. "This kid's going to be heartbroken when they wake up to no presents." Bill waved her off. "They'll get over it. Now let's move." They tiptoed down the stairs, careful to avoid the creaky steps. As they reached the living room, they saw the tree, adorned with twinkling lights and surrounded by brightly wrapped packages. Molly's eyes widened. "Holy crap, there's got to be thousands of dollars' worth of toys down there." Bill nodded, already making his way towards the tree. "Let's get to work." They began stuffing the presents into large duffel bags, moving quickly and quietly. Just as they were about to make their escape, they heard a voice from behind them. "What are you doing with my presents?" Molly and Bill turned to see a small child, no more than six years old, standing in the doorway. The kid's eyes were wide with confusion and a hint of fear. Molly looked at Bill, panic rising in her chest. "What do we do now?" Bill grinned, reaching into his pocket. "I've got an idea." He pulled out a handful of candy canes and held them out to the child. "Hey there, little one. We're just helping Santa out with his deliveries. Want a candy cane?" The child's face lit up, and they nodded eagerly. Molly and Bill exchanged a look, both silently thanking their lucky stars for the unexpected distraction. As the child happily accepted the candy, they made their escape, bags in hand, disappearing into the night.
